Tonight, celebrities are gathering at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY for the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. It's the first major celebrity event to take place during the pandemic, and MTV seems to be putting proper precautions in place. (For starters, the event is taking place outside, and the exact locations of the music performances are not being announced in order to prevent crowding). And while we can't wait for the performances that the evening has in store, we're of course keeping our eyes peeled for the best beauty looks to hit the red carpet, both physically and virtually.
So ahead, discover the most head-turning beauty looks that this historic VMAs has to offer, from Lady Gaga's iconic face masks to Keke Palmer's maximalist eyeshadow.
Lady Gaga's looks always surprise and delight, and tonight is no different. She's reminding everyone to wear a mask by showing off a few different mask looks this evening (including one adorned with tentacles), starting with this astronaut-esque globe face shield that's very becoming of her persona in "Rain On Me." Gaga's hair (both on the red carpet and during her stage appearances) was styled by hairstylist Frederic Aspiras using exclusively ghd products, including the ghd Glide Hot Brush ($169), Platinum+ Styler ($249), and Oval Dressing Brush ($40), just to name a few.
Sofia Carson is a vision in red this evening as she presented the Video For Good award to H.E.R. Carson's beauty look featured a sleek low bun and sparkling lids by makeup artist Karan Mitchell to match her Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown. To create Carson's makeup look for the evening, Mitchell exclusively used Revlon products, including the ColorStay Looks Book Eyeshadow Palette ($8), ColorStay Makeup in 285 Shell ($14), and PhotoReady Candid Anti-Pollution Setting Powder in 001 ($10) to set the look.
As if we'd expect anything less from Bella Hadid, she's walking the VMAs red carpet this evening giving us all of the '90s vibes, from the kohl eyeliner on her waterline to that Lizzie McGuire-inspired updo, both created by Evanie Frausto.
Doja Cat's hot pink eyeshadow, matching nails, and baby hairs are turning heads on the red carpet this evening. See how to get her slime green performance hair here.
Bebe's chic updo was styled by Iggy Rosales, with extra long coffin nails to complement her edgy black ensemble. For her hair, Rosales started by using Dove Smooth & Shine Heat Protectant Spray ($5) before flat ironing her hair "dead straight." She followed up with dry shampoo for a bit of grit, Dove Compressed Micro Mist Flexible Hold Hairspray ($6) to lock in the look, and finally Dove Go Active Dry Conditioner ($5) "on the front section and the ponytail to leave the hair extra silky, smooth and shiny before she headed off to the venue," according to a press release.
Keeping her lime green dress at the center of the show, Richie's makeup artist kept her makeup fairly minimal this evening, and wanted her skin to show through. "I was inspired by Nicole’s beautiful skin. I wanted to keep her makeup looking fresh and soft, focusing on warm golden tones with accents of coral and hibiscus," her MUA Mai Quynh said in a press release. Quynh prepped Richie's lit-from-within skin using Skyn Iceland products, including the Skyn Iceland Glacial Cleansing Cloths ($15), Arctic Face Oil ($42), Brightening Eye Serum ($40) and Hydro Cool Firming Ele Gels ($32), then created her makeup look exclusively using Armani Beauty products. To create the flawless base as seen on Richie, Quynh used Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation, Luminous Silk Concealer ($38), and Neo Nude A-Line Liquid Blush in shade 53 ($36).
Miley Cyrus is performing her new song "Midnight Sky" for tonight's 2020 Video Music Awards. The music video for the song features shimmering '80s lids and bright red lipstick, and it seems her look this evening is a nod to her look from the music video (no surprise).
