Not many people can make the transition from pop star to international fashion designer as effortlessly as Victoria Beckham has. We like to think that her hair has played a part in her success. After all, she always seems to hit the mark by opting for the perfect style at the right moment in time. In fact, her hairstyles have defined the looks of past decades quite well. The proof? Most of us have tried to copy at least one of her haircuts, and that's the very definition of being a trendsetter. We've gone back through Beckham's best looks (with "Viva Forever" playing in the background, of course), and while some of them might not be in your own hair repertoire anytime soon, we're pretty certain there will be at least one VB look you'd like to bring back. We're also sharing our expert hair product recommendations with you.
Midi Wavy Bob
This is classic off-duty VB: a midi bob with subtle highlights throughout. We can't think of a better style to pair with our summer dresses and oversized sunglasses.
This is the type of messy bun that will see you through so many occasions when you don't want to wear your hair down. Spritz a little Christophe Robin Instant Volumising Mist (£29) through the hair to lift the roots before pulling some strands out on the sides.
Some form of high-impact ponytail should be in everyone's collection of hairstyles, and this sleek look is timeless. Keep a centre parting like Beckham does here. Rather than scraping all the hair back, to keep the look softer, spray in L'Oréal Paris Stylista The Sleek Heat Protector Hair Styling Serum (£6) before straightening. This will keep the hair protected from heat damage and anchor down any flyaways.
Wispy Low Bun
We're all about the shape of this low bun. The pulled-out strands are one of Beckham's signatures, making them look red carpet-worthy but still slightly undone. To avoid ending up with a clump of matted hair, skip the backcombing and use Redken Quick Tease 15 Backcombing Lift Finish Spray (£10) instead.
There's just so much to say about the hairstyle that had us all running to the salon with a picture of this look clutched in our hands. The "pob" (Posh bob) is definitely one of Beckham's defining looks, and as the bob is a huge trend this season, we've gotta say that we're ready for it to come back.
Beckham is the queen of the subtle hair refresh, and this lighter color is the perfect match for this cut complete with blunt ends and tousled waves. Use a large barrel tong like GHD Curve Soft Curl Tong (£108) to get a loose dent in the hair rather than defined waves.
We tend to use the word "elegant" very sparingly, but if there were ever a time to use it, it's now. This vintage-inspired crop doesn't have a single hair out of place. To keep this pristine finish and get that healthy shine, smooth hair down with Oribe Star Glow Styling Wax (£39).
Even with a veiled hat, you still get that effortless look that Beckham is known for. This low ponytail is a style you can wear at formal events for a put-together yet interesting look.
Straight and Side-Swept
When you have to go out after work and only have a brush to work with, this should be your go-to style. Side-swept hair elevates every look (regardless of your hair texture), but if you have more of your hair kit on hand, use an oil like Ouai Hair Oil (£24) to add shine.
We rarely see Beckham rocking a high bun, but after seeing this photo, we want to see her wearing the style more. Keep everything loose and textured by spraying in Josh Wood Tinted Dry Shampoo (£10). It will refresh hair, touch up the color and add volume to the bun.
This all-out glamour style has us reminiscing about the glory days of footballers' wives, and it's worth getting the curling tongs out for. We're big fans of T3 Whirl Trio ($300), as you can change the wand size depending on what kind of waves you want to achieve.
With a neater finish than usual, this bun means business. This is a great style to mix in with your workwear. Pull the hair back with the help of an Invisibobble Original Hair Tie (£5) and only let out a few pieces at the front. It just might be your new hair uniform.
This bouffant-pony hybrid is a style we're considering for this summer's wedding circuit.
It's these tiny style tricks that make all the difference. We can't get enough of this hair tuck to fake a shorter cut. It can also make your outfit look like you've put more thought into it than you actually have. It's all in the details.
Sleek and Straight
How could we end this walk down memory lane without mentioning this throwback that started it all? It feels more relevant than ever now, and all it needs is some height and texture to be brought up-to-date.
We're not sure what style VB will go for next, but we're pretty sure that it'll be one we're willing to replicate.
