Makeup artist Nam Vo falls high on our list of favorite people to follow on Instagram. We could stare for hours at her signature "dewy dumpling" look, which involves glistening skin, iridescent sheen, and lots and lots of glow. Recently, she credited Korean makeup brand VDL's primer as one of the products she counts on to get the glow, which is why we were more than a little excited to report on VDL's much-anticipated launch in the U.S.
The good news keeps on coming: Today, Byrdie has the exclusive first look at VDL's latest launch, the Lumilayer Metal Cushion Primer ($40). Made up of 90% skin-conditioning ingredients like niacinamide and glycerin, this cushion primer makes even the driest, most exhausted skin feel (and look) pleasantly dewy and ready for foundation. Plus, the pearl powder makes you look like an ethereal angelic being who literally radiates light from within.
Here's how you use it: Just press the cushion into the metal dispenser part of the cushion compact, pick up the product, then pat it over your face. For a super glowy look, tap a couple of layers wherever want some extra shine. Or, the VDL website even suggests mixing the primer with your foundation for an all-over glow and coverage. I have oily skin and was pleasantly surprised that the primer didn't make me glisten like a lightbulb, but rather just smoothed over my pores and helped my skin look more awake.
My foundation (Benefit's Hello Happy Soft Blur Foundation, $30) definitely went on more smoothly, and I was happy to see my pores were much less noticeable.
Ever the extreme glow fiend, I also tapped some of the product on my cheekbones, where it left a slightly purple, holographic sheen. But here's the best part: My skin, which usually looks like an oil slick by midday, instead just looks pleasantly hydrated, bouncy, and lit from within. Don't believe me? Check out the photo I took below around 2 p.m. after applying the product in the morning.
