Playing it safe has never been Tracee Ellis Ross's MO. The actress is a natural when it comes to stunning us all with her effortlessly bold beauty (on the inside and out). One scroll through her perfectly entertaining Instagram feed full of #FitnessGoals, dancing videos, and to-die-for looks will have you hooked. Ms. Ross lives colorfully, and her beauty look at the Emmy Awards last night stayed true to that.
The Black-ish star was a nominee for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and completely wowed the red carpet with the dopest beauty look of a night. Her look consisted of a gorgeous flash of vivid color. Coral, sunset eye shadow and bright fuchsia lips were the focal points. She pulled her bodacious, bouncy curls back into a slicked bun, so her makeup stole the spotlight.
Celebrity makeup artist Lisa Storey of The Wall Group wanted to create a "uniquely playful yet bold and painterly makeup look" for Ross. Think about it: When's the last time you've seen pink and orange look so cohesively breathtaking? "Tracee is all about having fun with her makeup," she told Allure. "She loves pushing the boundaries and trying something different and throwing off the norm." She used the below Charlotte Tilbury products to pull off this out-of-the-box look.
Storey began prepping the skin to ensure a glowy complexion with the brand's cult favorite magic cream moisturizer. She lathered a bit of eye cream on Ellis Ross for extra hydration.
To prep the skin even more pre-foundation, Storey applied primer for a flawless foundation look.
Instead of a brush, Storey used the warmth of her fingertips to tap Magic Foundation in Shade 9 onto Ellis Ross's face.
To add a bit of dimension and brightness, she blended Magic Away Liquid Concealer in Shade 8 on the top of the actress's cheekbones. If you look at that area of her skin, the glow is unreal thanks to this silky formula.
To sculpt her face even more, Story applied a layer of the Hollywood Contour Wand in Medium/Dark on her cheekbones.
This is when the fun really starts. To perfect that natural flush Tracee has going on, Storey layered five different blushes on her skin. She began with cocktailing the two shades above together.
Next, she dusted a bit of this true berry blush on top.
To top off Ellis Ross's cheeks, she finished with a swirl of this bright pink shade in the center mixed with the Cheek to Chic Blusher in Pillow Talk ($40).
To control Ross's shine under those bright lights, she applied a bit of this loose powder on the high points of her face to seal together all the textures of her look.
The surprising product responsible for Ellis Ross's vibrant eye is, you guessed it, lipstick. To get this pigmented dash of color, Storey dabbed this shade across her lid using her fingers. To elongate the wing, she relied on this tiny lip brush ($26) for clean lines.
To amp up her neon eye, Storey added a bit of this bronzed, metallic, cream-based eye shadow. Genius.
To complete the eye, she lined Ellis Ross's eye with the above Rock 'n' Kohl liner and then applied a generous amount of this lengthening mascara, which is why her lashes look so incredibly lifted and healthy.
That fuchsia lip is something else, right? Storey mixed the above shades to create that popping pink hue. Her trick to mattify the texture was sheering the shades out with her fingers.
If anything, we've learned that beauty is patience and there's nothing wrong with depending on a lot of products to perfect your makeup artistry. Who else wants to try a matte lipstick as eye shadow this weekend? Same.
