Of all the hairstyles to choose from, the ponytail should be the one we can all feel good about. Long, short, curly, straight, thick, thin—everyone can wear it with very little effort or skill required. However, while some ponytails are naturally full and full of life, others could use a little boost. The good news is the fix for a flat pony is just as easy as the ponytail itself. In just a few seconds, you can take a thin, limp ponytail, and turn it into the thick, voluminous ponytail of your dreams.
Check out the instructions below, and click play on the video above to see how it’s done!
- Start with your hair in a ponytail.
- Take two bobby pins and crisscross them at the base of your ponytail. Inserting them right under your ponytail props it up for a lifted effect.
- Grab a small claw clip, one that fits within the width of your ponytail. Our model has a fair amount of hair, so her clip is larger. For less hair, we recommend Scunci’s No-Slip Grip Mini Octo Jaw Clips ($3).
- Split your hair at the top of your pony by sectioning off the top third. Hold that piece up and insert the clip right at the point where you split your hair into two sections. Release the section you’re holding, letting it fall over and concealer the clip, and leaving you with a full, voluminous ponytail.
Note: This trick is also a lifesaver if you have a lot of hair (like our model) and your ponytail gets weighed down easily. This quick fix prevents ponytail droop.
