About The Brand: Founded by Dr. Jeffrey P. Gilbard in 1976, TheraTears was developed when he noticed that there weren’t many over-the-counter dry eye treatments available to people suffering from this condition. His goal was to develop a profound understanding of dry eyes and a treatment that could offer relief to anyone needing it. TheraTears was developed in Boston at the Schepens Eye Institute Clinic and Labs and is one of the world’s leading eye research facilities.
About My Eyes: They feel dry often
I do a lot of work on my computer, and staring at a computer screen is one of the main causes of my dry eyes and changes in seasons, especially spring and summer. My eyes will burn, itch, and at times sting and can look bloodshot, especially if I’ve been on an airplane. I have used eye drops over the years to help combat dry eyes and some brands I’ve tried are Visine along with drugstore brands that offer soothing, dry eye relief.
How To Apply: Carefully drop in eyes with head tilted back
Applying eye drops is pretty straightforward, yet there are a few things to remember when doing this, especially if you are trying eye drops for the first time. First, tilt your head back to ensure your eyes absorb the drops and they don’t run down your face. The most important thing to remember is to relax before applying eye drops Sometimes, you can have a reflex that makes you want to squint or dread the sensation of eye drops going in, which is normal. Relax and take a few breaths before dropping eye drops in. Take the bottle, hold it at a tilt and lightly squeeze it a few inches above your eye to get 1-2 drops in each eye. You really won’t need more than that and can disperse the drops around the entire eye by blinking, which will help coat the eye right away.
The Results: Instant relief
Sometimes when I use eye drops my eyes can sting or burn, and with these drops, they did feel that way a few times, yet the burning sensation went away very quickly.
Upon using these drops on my eyes when I felt moderate dryness to very dry, the first thing I noticed was that after a few blinks my eyes felt instant relief.
The drops did not take out any redness from my eyes or make them look more white or clear, but the dryness was gone and that lasted for a few hours while working on my computer and being outdoors.
The Value: Budget-friendly
For a 1 oz bottle at the price of approximately $12 (or less at certain retailers), we find this to be a very budget-friendly, affordable option that gives several applications to dry eyes and is easily portable to bring with you anywhere on the go.
