My favorite pant style of the season is the extra, super wide leg. It’s the easiest assimilation back into regular pants after wearing sweatpants for the last year. Wide-leg pants are comfortable and easy to wear. That is if you wear the right shoes. Ahead, I’ve broken down six types of these wide-legged wonders paired with shoe styles that go with each. Keep scrolling to discover your new favorite spring outfit.
The Classic Trouser
At least in my book, one of the chicest looks is a crisp wide-leg trouser with simple everyday sandals. It helps the exaggerated volume of the pants maintain their stardom and also looks really chill. Trousers can be quite dressy, so a casual sandal is a perfect contrast. I like walking shoes like Birkenstocks or Teva-style shoes. I also think a flat strappy sandal like a lace-up or flip flop is good as long as the pants don’t excessively drag, though I don’t mind a bit of pants-to-ground action.

The Super Wide Denim
You can undoubtedly approach denim the way you do your trousers with a walking sandal or strappy one (I prefer the latter), but I do love a statement shoe with a bit of weight to it with a denim wide-legger. I personally fancy a chunky or platform sole shoe and brownie points if it has a wooden or lug sole. I think it keeps the look youthful but intentional.

The Linen
‘Tis the season for linen! A wide-leg linen pant is a perfect solution to most outings in the warmer months if you’re not one to wear shorts. I like pairing a wide-leg linen trouser with a structured shoe with a bit of weight to it but not too heavy. Think: flatform style sandal with a criss-cross strap or a wide upper or a flat sandal with some caging.

The Easy Breezy
Flowy wide pants are another wonder of warm seasons. To avoid veering into the sleepwear category, I like to pair them with shoes with substantial straps or a block heel. That way, your feet keep the look grounded but not clunky since the pants are so very airy.

The Knit
Because I’m not quite ready to pack up my stretchy, comfy-cozy bottoms, the knit wide leg had a reserved spot on this list. Ideally, you want to look for pants made with cotton, so they work well into the warmer season. They look especially great with casual and clean flat shoes like a caged flat sandal, a canvas flat, or lightweight sneakers.
