Whether or not it's against her best efforts, Taylor Swift has a penchant for drama, whether it's her major press coverage with Katy Perry, John Mayer, Harry Styles, or, most notably, Kanye West. Her new music video seems to be a nod to those past experiences. Her new single, "Look What You Made Me Do," came out yesterday, and she's already teased a clip from the subsequent music video. Though we can't be sure of the video's storyline (the clip she released is somewhere around 15 seconds long), we do know her hair and makeup will be as striking as her new unapologetic attitude. Be prepared: She looks so different.
As you can see, she goes between her familiar red lip and liner look (one that resembles what she wore in the "Blank Space" music video) and something less refined. In one scene, she dons a smoky cat eye with a vampy red-purple lip. Her hair is tousled and a little rock 'n' roll. In other words, her beauty look mimics the dark, vengeful, and unapologetic mood of the backdrop.
The video will premiere at the Video Music Awards on Sunday while the entire album will debut in November. Speaking of the album, that defiant mood seems to permeate throughout, if her recent Instagram activity is any indication. (After all, she literally posted a photo of a snake to her Instagram. Oh, and the album's name is Reputation, complete with gothic font and an edgy design.) Clearly, this album is quite a departure from her last, the relatively tame 1989.
We're excited to see the video in its entirety, especially since we only get a glimpse of her beauty look in this teaser. If you can't wait until Sunday to see more unfold, try channeling your inner T.Swift with Stila's Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner ($22) and the Nars Audacious Lipstick ($34) in Charlotte, a deep oxblood purple, which looks a lot like the moody color she wears in the video.
