Grown-Up Topknot

Zendaya nailed this dressed-up topknot without adding so much as a hair accessory! Her secret to taking everyone’s favorite hair up from casual to couture? Shine and volume. Get your hair in tip-top shape by using a replenishing hair mask—we like Shu Uemera Ultimate Reset Hair Mask ($69)—and then blow-dry using a shine enhancer like Sebastian Professional Trilliant Shimmer-Complex ($16), making sure you get plenty of lift at the roots. Position your topknot high on the crown of your head like Kloss for added drama—romantic wispy bits optional.

Voluminous Ponytail

If you’ve already got a lot of length, here’s how to switch things up like Yara Shahidi. Prep your hair from the get-go by washing with a body-boosting shampoo and conditioner — we love Sachajuan’s Ocean Mist Volume range ($29) — then add extra oomph to your waves by spritzing hair with a texturizing spray. For beachy waves without the sticky or crunchy finish, we like OUAI Wave Spray ($26), which uses nourishing rice proteins rather than salt for a smoother, glossier result.

Big Curls

Natural or not, curls are having a moment right now, and Fearne Cotton was all over it at the Glamour Awards. The key to keeping curls looking red carpet–ready is plenty of definition—plus a bucket load of gloss and volume. Prep-work is everything when it comes to taming curls that are prone to frizz, but smoothing a clever styling cream like Bumble and bumble Curl Defining Cream ($31) or Oribe Curl Gloss ($42) through damp hair before styling should help you stay in control. If you’ve got naturally straight hair, prep with a volume booster that won’t weigh down your locks, such as Living Proof Full Thickening Cream ($29).

Romantic Twists

If you’ve got long hair that just wants to roam free come summertime, Neelam Gill’s Glamour Awards hairstyle is for you. Add plenty of body to your locks by twisting large sections around a wand or wide-barrelled tong, then gently shake them out and spritz with a nourishing anti-humidity spray such as Oribe Impermeable Antihumidity Spray ($42). Next, take small sections from the front and either twist or braid away from your face. Pin in place with discrete kirby grips, and off you go.

Amber Heard

We’ve seen hair accessories cropping up on various runways and red carpets this year, but Amber Heard took the trend to the next level with this gold barrette tucked neatly into her parted updo. Not sure how to pep-up your ’do? Stick a crown on it! To give your own bun a regal finish, pack on the shine with a glossy finishing spray, we like OGX Nourishing Coconut Oil Weightless Hydrating Oil Mist ($9), and leave small sections at the front free when you’re pinning the bun in place. Add a crown-like headband or barrette and then twist your front sections back into the bun, taking them over the sides of your headband.
