Exclusive: Suki Waterhouse Has Some Blunt Beauty Advice for Her 16-Year-Old Self
As with fellow It Brits (and friends) Georgia May Jagger, Cara Delevingne, and Alexa Chung, when Suki Waterhouse doles out beauty advice, you just take it—even if only in an attempt to absorb some of her cool-girl effortlessness. It's this magnetic je ne sais quois that has earned her a steady gig as the face of Burberry beauty, after all. But as we learned at a recent event heralding the launch of the brand's new Full Kisses lip colors ($30), even Waterhouse has a history of beauty hang-ups, not to mention makeup tricks she still has trouble mastering now. (Models… they're just like us!)
From her brow-related struggles to the festival essentials she can't go without, Waterhouse gets candid below.
BYRDIE: What is your go-to party look, and why?
SUKI WATERHOUSE: I love pale pink and mocha shades. They suit any amazing party outfit.
BYRDIE: What is the one beauty secret you would tell your 16-year-old self?
SW: Stop being lazy, and learn to tweeze your eyebrows!
BYRDIE: What is the most valuable beauty trick Burberry makeup artist Wendy Rowe has showed you?
SW: Contouring, specifically around the eye socket to make my eyes pop.
BYRDIE: How about products?
SW: [Wendy introduced me to] Burberry's Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base ($48) and Burberry Kisses Lip Colors ($33)—they are my absolute handbag essentials.
BYRDIE: What is the one beauty trick you still aren’t able to do yourself?
SW: I can’t do winged eyeliner and it’s my favorite makeup look!
BYRDIE: Festival season is well underway! What products do you always have on hand when you're hitting the shows?
SW: Burberry's Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base ($48), Lucas' Papaw Ointment ($8) Burberry Kisses Lip Colors ($33), and Fresh Glow BB Cream ($44) because it moisturizes, protects and illuminates.
BYRDIE: Who is your beauty icon?
SW: Elizabeth Taylor—cold eyes and diamonds work every time. Iconic!
BYRDIE: Whose makeup do you most admire?
SW: Rihanna, because she’s not afraid to experiment.
BYRDIE: How would you describe your style when it comes to makeup?
SW: I love getting made up, and I’m really lucky that I get to have amazing artists do my makeup. But for daily life, I like to let my skin breathe or just pop on a little bit of BB cream. If I’m going out in the day, I’ll take a lipstick and use it both on my lips and on my cheeks as a blush.
