After spending some time on the streets with real New York women discussing skincare, I couldn't help but wonder about their hair. Admittedly, the majority of women we found on that fateful Saturday morning had their hair in greasy topknots, a various array of morning-after 'dos. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)
But a few women absolutely blew us away with their locks as well as their ability to wake up early, get out of the house, and still look incredible. Below, we list the five helpful hair hacks they told us.
Her best tip: "Always brush your hair in the shower, when it's wet. I always air-dry and never use hot tools! To get my waves, I sleep with damp hair, and presto: I wake up with beach hair. The best conditioner I have ever used is the Whole Foods brand Mint Conditioner. I have used salon-grade stuff that's not as effective. Moroccanoil Treatment ($15) and Biosilk Silk Therapy Oil ($25) are my favorite hair serums."

Her best tip: "Nothing beats a good blowout—I love Sachajuan Intensive Hair Oil ($50). Also, they have an intensive conditioner. I used to be bleach blond. It's been a real journey; it looks healthy now because I shaved it."

Her best tip: "Make sure you eat well—you have to eat lots of protein always, use your conditioner, and lots of oil. I use this Korean brand, Ryoe. They have really good products—they're very thick and moisturizing."
Occupation: Musician and songwriter
Her best tip: "I think that less is more. I love VO5 Hot Oil Treatment ($6)."
Her best tip: "I just cut my hair, so it's much shorter and healthier now—my favorite products are from L'Oréal."
