Smashbox O-Glow: Tested and Reviewed by 3 Editors

There are some cult-favorite beauty products that claim to be one-shade-fits-all, but are they really? What one shade of lipstick or powder looks like on one complexion surely can't look as flattering on another person, right? Enter Smashbox O-Glow. This product appears to be a true game changer in the world of universal beauty products.

The thing with O-Glow is that it reacts with your body's pH to adjust to just the right color—supposedly the shade that you would naturally blush without the help of makeup—right before your eyes. It works on the lightest and darkest of skin tones, so really any complexion can benefit from the seemingly cosmetic sorcery. But since we were a bit skeptical of how the intuitive, chemistry-reacting gel would look on our own complexions, we decided to put it to the test and boy, were we impressed.

The verdict: "I was extremely impressed with O-Glow. I'm usually not one for self-adjusting products—BB creams always turn out too light or orange on me and lip colors too pink. But the color of this blush was quite flattering and surprisingly buildable. If you use a small amount, you can get a very light, diffused flush, but you can also layer it on to get a more vibrant pink. It blends effortlessly, which probably has to do with the silky, primer-like texture. My tip is to apply it one cheek at a time, going straight from finger to cheek.

If you let the product sit on your finger too long, it will start reacting and turning pink, and you could end up with one cheek pinker than the other."

The verdict: "I never really wear blush—even though I know I should, because I have pale skin and full cheeks that tend to look washed out and one-note in photos. My issue is that it's so hard to find a natural-looking color that blends seamlessly, and I hate the fact that one wrong move with a brush can make you look oversaturated and, well, very '80s (and not in a good way).

This is the exact product I needed to make me a convert. The color is very subtle and buildable—and there's obviously the benefit that it matches your skin tone for a very believable, lit-from-within glow. But what makes it a winner for me is the consistency. Because it's a gel and the color is so sheer, it's really forgiving, which means I can just dab it on with my fingertips and blend it in with my foundation without worrying about going overboard. The verdict: "I'm a sucker for color-changing beauty products, and the O-Glow did not disappoint—in fact, I think I gasped out loud when I first applied it and saw the clear primer-like material turn into a rosy pink (I get excited easily). The consistency is super-smooth, like a silicone primer, and melted effortlessly over my foundation. The final result was a subtle, super-flattering pink tint—it looks like I was naturally flushed, instead of wearing blush. As a self-proclaimed blush aficionado, I'm super impressed with this formula.

It's definitely more of a daytime product, offering a hint of color instead of a bright pop, but suffice it to say, it's officially earned a place in my carefully selected blush rotation."
