New York is not for the faint of heart—the pedestrian-dominated streets keep our schedules on the go and our styles a bit… grittier. With it, though, comes an effortlessness all our own. It's that understated cool that keeps our skin mostly bare but properly tended to.
New York is notably the city that doesn't sleep, so how do its residents keep fatigue off their faces? We decided to find out. I posted up with our photographer on a corner in NoLIta, a neighborhood that might as well recruit off-duty cool girls, and waited. We met five women with shockingly beautiful skin and hounded them for their secrets.

Occupation: Digital media for Barneys New York
Her best tip: "I try sticking to a routine that I like to call Face Mask Mondays (may or may not be a personal hashtag). After weekends of going out, falling asleep with makeup on, and eating four slices of late-night pizza, on Monday night, I am to say sorry to my face. I have some fancy masks, but my favorite is just 10 bucks. It also works as a spot treatment and is the best for healing super-itchy mosquito bites!"
Occupation: Writer and founder of She's in the Glow
Her best tip: "I like to layer. I start with an essence; then I use a serum, moisturizer, and eye cream—every day and night."
Occupation: Producer for a creative agency
Her best tip: "Drink lots of water—stay hydrated! And moisturize. It's getting cold, and I feel dryness coming on, so I make sure to keep that in check. I treated myself to a new moisturizer recently, and I really like it a lot; it feels like ballerinas dancing on your face."
Occupation: Fashion designer
Her best tip: "I love this one drugstore moisturizer; I've been using it for years."
Occupation: Graphic designer
Her best tip: "I always wear sunscreen, even on cold days in winter. I just bought more this morning!"
