Shawna graduated with a degree in journalism from California State University Fullerton. She started out working in video journalism (specifically OC News as an anchor and producer) then later transitioned into doing more editorial writing. After graduating, she started as a writer for popular teen entertainment site Sweety High covering everything from fashion and beauty picks to their weekly #MCM.
After that, she was a music publicist briefly for a few years, but ultimately decided to return to her first love—writing. Now, she writes beauty stories that share her experience with skincare as a mixed race woman, expert advice pieces, beauty hacks, and stories that speak to other women of color. She's also passionate about emerging beauty brands who are thoughtful in their approach to skincare and do the work to create products that truly work (especially for melanin-rich skin tones).
