Makeup brushes are necessary, yet choosing the right ones can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re just starting to build your collection. While you don’t necessarily need several makeup brushes each day to apply makeup, it’s best practice to have a nice collection of different brushes to help create polished makeup looks that are effortlessly blended. Ahead, I put  Shany’s The Masterpiece Pro Signature Brush Set to the test to see if the brushes held up to their rave reviews, and for a brush set that’s so affordable, I was quite impressed with the outcome.

About the Brand: Shany was created in 2006 by a college student who loved makeup but didn’t love the steep price tag it often comes with. Located in Stafford, TX, the brand is now recognized in both the beauty and e-commerce industries.

About My Skin: I wear makeup daily

I wear makeup on a daily basis, and I use makeup brushes every single day. I have a nice collection of brushes that I’ve obtained over the years (personally for myself and as a professional makeup artist), so I’ve tried a lot of different types of brushes. I use a foundation, concealer, eyeshadow, blush, and highlight brush every single day when applying my makeup, and brands I often use are IT Cosmetic, Anisa Beauty, Nars, and Alima Pure.

How to Apply: Depends on the brush

This set gives you a lot of different brushes to choose from, and they’ve covered all the bases for what you might need at any given moment. With makeup brushes, it’s important to remember a few things. You can use them for what they are designed for, or you can be creative and use them for other products, too. For instance, a blush brush can be used to apply brush and powder. An eyeshadow brush can be used for shadow and applying a cream highlighter, too. The list is endless for the ways you can use makeup brushes, which is another reason why they are so fun to experiment with. First off, wash your brushes on receiving them to prepare them for makeup application. Below are a few examples of how to use some of the brushes from the Shany Masterpiece Pro Signature Brush Set.

I was impressed with the results that these brushes gave. For how affordable they are, they apply makeup in the same way that more costly, luxury brushes do.

It’s always nice to have a guide to refer to with brushes, so here’s a few tips on how to use them. When using the F11 Foundation Brush, lightly dab the liquid makeup on the face and then blend in an upward motion with your brush in small strokes until the product is blended and looks natural. You can use the F13 Rounded Foundation Brush for liquid or cream foundations, along with cream highlighters.

For the M33 Mineral Powder Brush, you’ll want to lightly buff cream or powder foundation into the skin. You can also use this as a blush brush, as it has a lovely, rounded head. Apply your powder or cream blushes on the apples of the cheeks in a circular motion, building the color as you go. This ensures that blush looks natural and that you don’t apply too much, too soon.

When using the E12 Eyeshadow Brush, the head is flat enough that it works for both applying shadow to the lids and blending shadow in the crease. Build the color on your lids by tapping it on until you’re happy with the outcome.

The E11 Eyeshadow Brush can be used for eyeshadow along with concealer, as it’s soft enough for under the eyes and works well to blend cream and powder products.

The F17 Buffed Bronzer Brush helps to apply cream or powder bronzer and has a flat head that allows the product to blend on the skin and contour.

The Results: Even and blended makeup

I was impressed with the results that these brushes gave. For how affordable they are, they apply makeup in the same way that more costly, luxury brushes do. A few things I noticed were at first, the brush roll has a strong plastic smell to it upon opening, so you’re going to want to let it air out for a bit before using.

I used different brushes to apply my foundation, concealer, eyeshadows, blush, bronzer, and highlighter and was pleased with the blending capabilities of each brush. There were a few brushes with dense heads that felt a bit prickly on the skin when applying the product, but overall, the brushes were soft, malleable, and delivered the same results I’ve gotten before from more expensive ones. Something to realize though is you might not use all of the makeup brushes in this set since there are so many!

My makeup looked evenly blended, and the brushes are absolutely suitable to use every day.

The Value: Affordable

For the number of brushes you’re getting in this set and the fact that they are sturdy, apply different textures well, and give the look of professionally applied makeup, at only $50, this set should cost way more than it does, making it an absolute bargain that’s worth investing in.
