5 Second-Day Hairstyles to Bookmark Now

Updated 04/23/19

Despite knowing it’s better for hair health, it can be tough to refrain from shampooing two or even three days in a row, especially if we’ve worked out or have a big night ahead. But we have to remind ourselves of the fact that hair styles better a day or two after a wash. And, luckily, we’re now spoiled with the amount of beauty products available to prevent second-day problems like oily roots and funky texture. It's become much easier to embrace the idea of shampooing less and loving our hairdo all the same.

One of our favorite tricks is spraying a little Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo ($22) and Silken Up Dry Conditioner ($24) because, together, they turn locks into an easy-to-style canvas you can (and should) explore way beyond the topknot. Keep scrolling to see five cool-girl looks to inspire your next second-day hairstyle.

Sleek Pony

The key to a super sleek pony is straight, flat hair, so start by running a flat iron through your locks. Then, brush your hair back into a ponytail and secure it with a hair elastic. Use a gel or cream like Oribe's Sculpting Cream ($36) to smooth down the top of the style and prevent against flyaways.

Tightly Coiled Chignon

Gather your strands into a ponytail at the back of your head, then twist the pony and wrap it into a coil. Secure with many, many bobby pins, add hairspray for some hold, and there you have it. Super chic.

Boxer Braids

Princess Braid

Secure the top section of your hair into a small ponytail using a hair elastic. Then, turn the pony into a fishtail braid by dividing it into two sections and alternating passing hair from one section to the other (if that sounds confusing, consult YouTube). Secure the end with another hair elastic and you're done.

Slicked With Metal Barrette
