It was 5 a.m., and I had just walked into my apartment from Alexander Wang’s New York Fashion Week after-party, which might I add was not a normal night. I miraculously ended up in his VIP section and that consequently turned into a night of nonstop dancing with the man himself. Don’t ask me how this happened because I’m still not quite sure. What I do know is that this night goes down in the books as one of the most epic turn-ups ever. But I committed the ultimate beauty crime of sleeping in my makeup that night. And my skin paid for it.
As you can presume, I went all-in on my makeup. I tend to be more extra than ever when I go out to parties I know are going to be guaranteed fun. I went a little crazy on the contouring, coated my lashes five (or six?) times with my new fave mascara, La Roche-Posay Respectissime Extension Mascara ($25), and topped my lips off with BH Cosmetics Long Wearing Matte Lipstick in Bewitched ($5) with a swipe of Huda Beauty Lip Strobe in Fearless ($18) on top.
Imagine waking up the next morning with all of that still kind of on your face. It was not cute, and I needed to get it together really quickly. My skin felt so icky and dry. Two makeup wipes and my go-to cleanser didn’t do the job—the kind of night I had called for some heavy-duty lifting in the skincare department. Enter Rodial’s Super Acids X-Treme After-Party Scrub, which had been sitting in one of my skincare bins for the longest time. I thought this was the most fitting occasion to give this baby a whirl and see if a miracle would happen.
I squeezed a quarter-size drop of this exfoliator into my hand. At first glance, I saw mini beads in the lather. After some investigating, I found out these were bentonite clay beads made to exfoliate and purify your skin while absorbing oil—aka just what I needed. I massaged this onto my skin, and it literally felt like I was stripping away all the dirt, debris, and partying from the night before.
I was very into the sensational feeling of the microbeads rolling on top of my skin, which was helping it shed dead skin cells. I will say this: The scrub is not gentle. It’s a hardworking blend of glycolic and salicylic acid to revitalize the smooth texture of your skin and de-clog pores. It’s also made of vitamin E, shea butter, and biotilys probiotic technology, which hydrated my thirsty skin and relieved it from all the external aggressors sitting on top of it from the night before.
Please believe that this scrub is ideal for a skin snatch-back. Afterward, my hungover skin seriously felt so soft and hydrated. All of the nourishing properties in this scrub truly woke my face up and gave me a facial-like glow. I looked more energized and ready for my day. It’s now front and center in my medicine cabinet since it lives up to its name.
I hate sleeping in my makeup—it makes me feel like such an irresponsible human. However, if I’m being honest with myself, I know that won’t be the last time it happens in my 20-something life. Now, I’ll just reach for this exfoliator when I don’t want to forget about my night, but I want to trick my skin into feeling like it never happened.
