When cult-favorite clean beauty brand, RMS Beauty, launches a product with the word “radiance” in it, you try it without asking questions. Master Radiance Base ($30) is the latest to join the RMS lineup and a fine companion to their “Un” Cover-Up Cream Foundation ($52). What is it? An incandescent cream highlighter that the brand boats is universally flattering and can be worn four ways: on its own, before foundation application, mixed in with foundation, or to highlight certain areas of the face.
The results are luminous skin—an effect that OG makeup artist and founder, Rose-Marie Swift, compares to nightclub or candlelit lighting. “We've had wet skin and we've had glass skin for so long. It's almost like, ‘Okay like we got to move on.’ So I'm taking upon myself to move on and I've done it with this,” she says introducing her new baby via Zoom. “Everything I do is really versatile. There is no one way, or tunnel vision [with RMS Beauty]. This is what this is. I tend to do products where you can really play,” she adds.
As a girl who is here for the “makeup-you-can-play-with” trend where brands are giving users free rein with uses for their products, I was intrigued. The small tub comes with a rose gold instrument to scoop the product which has a goopier consistency than I expected when I initially plopped it onto my skin. However, once I rubbed it in, I felt the organic jojoba, chia, and meadowfoam seed oils go to work. Almost instantly, the thick whipped cream had meshed in with my bare-face. This makes sense, since jojoba quickly absorbs into the skin to nourish, meadowfoam seed is the ultimate skin conditioner, and chia seed firms and smooth—in summary, this trio is ultra-hydrating.
The results were glowy and vibrant-looking skin. I paired the Master Radiance Base in shade Rich with only mascara and lipgloss for a “no-makeup” makeup look that was selfie-worthy. Master Radiance is available in just one other shade—Deep—which doesn’t seem like a versatile enough scope, but I can easily see how the formula would blend into most complexions, once you let it settle onto the skin. Although I’m not big into foundation, I will try mixing this whenever I decide to go full-glam.
I can confidently say that RMS Beauty’s Master Radiance Base lives up to its tag line, “Radiance Your Way” and might just be the answer to keeping my summer glow all year round.
