I am a slight anomaly. I’m a natural redhead with fair lashes, which means I just plaster them with mascara on the daily. I’ve had my lashes tinted by an expert for holidays in the past and really liked waking up not resembling a mole seeing light for the first time in months, but considering I rarely go sans mascara it’s not really worth the expense any other time. So when I heard Rimmel was launching a multipurpose lash tinting mascara my first thought was That is genius and my second was Why has no one thought about this before? I mean, seriously! It makes so much sense. Keep scrolling to read all about Rimmel London's latest mascara.
Eyelash tinting is a popular service that many beauty salons offer; you can also try it at home with DIY methods and kits available for purchase, just as long as you're extremely careful about the ingredients. The eye area is delicate, after all, and you don't want to put just anything on those precious lashes.
Or, you could simply pick up a tinting mascara, which is both safe and effective. Like a gradual tanner for your lashes, Rimmel Volume Colorist Mascara ($6) contains a semi-permanent lash tint that works over time to take bare lashes darker in two weeks. I started to notice my lashes getting darker after about seven days. The mascara itself gives lashes good separation and volume; for me, it was a little on the natural side, so I layered it up with either Code Beautiful VLM Mascara ($26) or Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara ($25), which are my two go-tos.
As for removal, the Rimmel mascara will come off easily with your usual eye makeup remover (I use Vichy Purete Thermale Waterproof Eye Make-up Remover, $17), leaving your lashes mascara-less but definitely darker—no more raccoon eyes.
Tinting mascaras are still a relatively new phenomenon, but if you can't get enough of them, here are a few other options.
Wash this mascara off after one use and enjoy up to three days of slightly darker lashes—no makeup required.
For a less permanent approach, get the lash tint look with Glossier's subtle yet impactful formula. The best part? It stays put all day, washes out easily, and never clumps up.
