When actress Reese Witherspoon shared her nighttime skin care routine on Instagram a few days ago, a few things stood out as both surprising and not so surprising. On the unsurprising front, it was to be expected that she would include a product or two from Elizabeth Arden, since she’s partnered with the brand for years. What was surprising was how clear-cut, simple and affordable her routine seems to be. It’s only four steps, and it proceeds as follows: Oil cleanser, a facial roller tool, an at-home peel (that’s part of a month-long system) and moisturizer. That’s it!
But she doesn’t just use any old face roller. One of the tools that Witherspoon turns to both morning and evening is Nurse Jamie’s NuVibe RX Amethyst Massaging Beauty Tool, which she uses “to help get rid of dark circles,” according to the video.
Like the other products in her routine (which we’ll get to), this handheld tool is also somewhat attainable—at least as far as vibrating facial tools go—retailing for $95. The circular amethyst stone on the end supposedly vibrates at 6,000 pulses per minute, which the brand claims will help temporarily soften fine lines on the face and neck (and probably also feel pretty good, one would think). The sonic vibes (powered easily by just one AA battery, so you don’t have to worry about annoying cords) supposedly also help increase the efficacy of your skincare products, presumably by pushing them deeper down into the skin.
While the instructions on the product page say to first apply an eye cream or facial moisturizer before you begin gliding the tool across your face, Witherspoon uses it on her bare face. She glides the device all over her complexion, focusing mainly on the under-eye area.
Considering that the device is out of stock at both Sephora and Ulta, and has a one to three week expected ship time at Dermstore, it’s clear that Witherspoon isn’t the only fan. “I do see a difference in the puffiness of my face. I notice that this helps my face ‘wake up’ and look more fresh,” writes one Sephora reviewer. Another simply says, “Love love love this product. Go for it. Highly recommend.”
The rest of Witherspoon’s nighttime routine, in order, includes: Elizabeth Arden’s Ceramide Replenishing Cleansing Oil ($36), the NuVibe tool and Elizabeth Arden’s Prevage Progressive Renewal Treatment ($162). Then, she seals it all in with an unnamed moisturizer, leaving us all with one important nugget of wisdom: “Don’t forget ladies…always [end] with the moisturizer at night!”
