Ray Finch is a health special projects editor on the performance marketing team. Their passion for mental health, disability, and LGBTQIA+ issues developed from personal experience and connecting with others in these overlapping communities.

Experience

Ray has offered editorial support to a variety of digital publications over the last five years, including Upworthy, GOOD Magazine, The Bold Italic, Elemental, Everyday Feminism, and Let’s Queer Things Up!

Their longtime interest in mental health, chronic illness, disability, neurodivergence, and LGBTQIA+ issues was sparked first by their own first-hand experiences with each, and then was further kindled by the experiences, challenges, and victories of each of these communities.

Ray is committed to producing inclusive, scientifically sound content that takes into account such nuanced factors as socioeconomic status, clinician bias, and cultural competence, all of which influence how people engage—or don’t—with medical professionals and the health care system.

They developed their expertise on mental health, neurodivergence, disability, and LGBTQIA+ issues after years of personal experience, as well as by learning directly from experts and advocates in these communities. They have spent the last 15 years researching mental health providers, clinics, apps, and other resources and can quickly identify a broad range of problematic concepts and terminology.

Education

Ray has a double major in Anthropology and Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan–Dearborn, where they graduated with highest honors.
