Protect Your Face With These Sunscreens
Do you skip sunscreen on your face? Adding protection to your routine is easy with the right formula. We’ve found a variety of SPFs--from a powder to a stick--that make it simple to battle the burn and beat aging.
Kate Somerville Daily Deflector Waterlight Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ PA+++ Anti-Aging Sunscreen ($48)
Physical sunscreens (SPFs comprised of minerals instead of chemicals) are commonly thick, but Kate Somerville’s new mineral SPF is as light as they come. It contains a delivery system that helps the broad-spectrum SPF stay on the surface of skin, while built-in anti-agers penetrate to deliver moisture and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
Shiseido Sun Protection Stick Foundation SPF 35 ($27)
An update from the usual sunscreen stick, Shiseido’s version comes in two shades, as well as clear. SPF 35 protects, while skin-nourishing antioxidants fight free-radicals. Smooth onto skin and blend with your fingers for a dewy finish.
Colorescience Sunforgettable Mineral Sunscreen Brush SPF 30 ($60)
Take a cue from our own Hillary Kerr and pick up a sunscreen powder. It protects as well as a cream but you don’t have to wait for it to soak into skin! Bonus? It’s a non-greasy way to protect your scalp--just dust onto your part.
Neutrogena Clear Liquid Lotion Face Sunscreen ($12)
Designed specifically for acne-prone skin, this lotion is noncomedogenic, oil and fragrance-free, and water-resistant for 80 minutes. The broad-spectrum formula is light on the skin and creates a matte finish.
La Roche Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid for Face ($30)
La Roche Posay’s face formula was developed to be incredibly light on the skin, while still providing broad-spectrum SPF 60 protection. They’ve included a dose of antioxidants to this sheer formula. Plus, it’s water-resistant for 80 minutes.
Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30 ($20)
Perhaps the easiest one to work into your morning skincare routine, layer this serum under your moisturizer to protect skin and help create a smooth canvas for makeup. It is broad-spectrum SPF 30, with vitamins E and B5 for cell renewal.
Obagi Sun Shield Matte Broad Spectrum SPF 50 ($46)
Zinc has come a long way since its days as a thick, white cream. Obagi’s latest face sunscreen formula’s full of micro-fine zinc oxide, which creates a totally sheer layer of coverage as powerful as the chalky cream. This formula has broad-spectrum SPF 50, soaks in quickly, and dries to a matte finish.
Kiehl’s Skin Tone Correcting and Beautifying BB Cream SPF 50 ($37)
Headed to the office instead of the beach? You still need to protect your skin. This formula has a high SPF, gives a wash of color, and brightens skin with vitamin C. (Or pick up another one of our favorite BB or CC creams.)
Australian Gold Faces Sheer Coverage ($8)
Australian Gold’s formula has a built-in gradual self-tanner, so even though you’re protected with broad-spectrum SPF 45, you’ll still leave your BBQ with a tan. The formula smells like a tropical vacation and is water-resistant for 80 minutes.
Badger Damascus Rose Face Sunscreen ($17)
Are you into beautiful packaging? Badger’s formula may look like it came from a vintage apothecary, but the broad-spectrum SPF 16 and skin-soothing antioxidants make it modern skincare. It’s made for sensitive and delicate skin, with rose, lavender, and chamomile to soothe your complexion, while rosehips deliver antioxidants.
