Emily Ratajkowski Just Posted Herself in a Pixie Cut, and We Can't Breathe

Updated 05/08/19

Hollywood’s obsession with the pixie cut is anything but newfound. After all, it goes without saying that looks à la Twiggy, Audrey, and Linda will forever live in infamy. But fast-forward to present day, and some of our favorite It girls are breathing new life into the trend—and giving us a serious case of hair envy to boot.

From bleaching their (super-)short strands shimmering shades of blond to working glamorous finger waves (hello, Old Hollywood!), everyone from Zoë to Cara is making a case for embracing a much closer chop. For now, we’ll continue to lust from afar, but these pixie cuts are just too good not to share.

Byrdie HQ collectively gasped when, during a typical Instagram scroll break, we came across a picture of EmRata in a darling pixie cut, the shortest we've ever seen on the model. The caption explained that the cut was actually just a wig she was testing for tonight's Met Gala look (and ultimately decided against wearing), but needless to say, we still stopped short at the absence of her usual long brunette tresses. Take a look at more of our favorite celebrity pixie cuts below!

Maria Borges

Victoria’s Secret runway model Maria Borges pairs her closely cropped pixie cut with a stunning smoky eye, barely there nude lip, and flawless skin for a hairstyle that totally takes center stage.

Cara Delevingne

We weren’t exactly surprised when Cara Delevingne lightened her hair to a striking shade of silver earlier this year and, as one does, proceeded to shave it all off. Not one to shy away from boldness when it comes to her beauty aesthetic, the model has been seriously working the grow-out period, and this glamorous tribute to Old Hollywood might just be our favorite take on the model’s pixie cut yet.

Katy Perry

We’ve been drooling over Katy Perry’s pixie—longer on top and closely cropped on the sides—ever since she made the drastic chop this spring. Plus, the white-blond color really makes her perfect skin and bright blue eyes pop, no?

Jourdan Dunn

The supermodel has since gone even shorter, but Jourdan Dunn’s longer take on the classic cut is a brilliant solution for those intimidated by a true pixie. To nail the look, work your strands around a curling iron for a tousled touch of polish.

Zoë Kravitz

One of Byrdie HQ’s most frequent sources of beauty inspiration, Zoë Kravitz never (we repeat, never) falls flat when it comes to her beauty look. Case in point: We’re totally digging the slightly disheveled and ultra-short pixie she’s been sporting since ditching her dreads.

Coco Rocha

Following in the footsteps of other iconic supermodels like Linda Evangelista, Twiggy, and Tyra Banks, Coco Rocha’s striking pixie cut feels fresh thanks to a deep side part and crisp, slicked-to-the side strands.

Janelle Monáe

Throughout award season, Janelle Monáe dazzled us with her sensational red carpet style. Typically, the triple threat’s short and sweet pixie was adorned with flowers, crystals, and the like, providing plenty of inspiration for those considering a more androgynous chop.

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson has been rocking a shorter look for a while now, and the styling and color just get better and better. (Like wine, right?) With longer layers on the top (which can be tousled, slicked, or brushed forward), her current look is an edgy and unexpected way to work the pixie trend without going all the way.

Ruth Negga

Ladies with natural curls, this one’s for you. Always true to her natural texture and curl, actress Ruth Negga beautifully demonstrates how to rock a pixie cut while staying faithful to the body and curl that the hair gods blessed her with.

Ruby Rose

Just because you go short doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice volume. As proof, Ruby Rose schools us (per usual) in her trademark cool-but-totally-not-trying way, showing that some thickening spray and one hell of a blowout are the perfect way to style a pixie during the tumultuous grow-out phase.
