There are few people in the world who can cause a full-on frenzy with each new product launch—and Pat McGrath is queen of them all. The legendary makeup artist launched her new Metalmorphosis 005 kit this morning, and all of us are now faint of breath and craving metallics. After launching Gold 001 mysteriously at the Paris’s Jardin de Tuileries in fall 2015, McGrath is now introducing us to Gold 001’s “sisters,” as she calls them. Each kit features two metallic shades—one cream and one glittery one flecked with metal for layering—a black dual-ended eyeliner pen, and a Mehron mixing liquid. You can purchase the kits for $60 each in gold, silver, copper, or bronze, or go all out and get all the shades for $165 in the Everything Kit. Eyeliner fans can purchase the Black Dual-Ended Marker for $24.
“These kits are the way that I work,” McGrath tells me at the press preview. “If I were to do a show, I would take my metallics. I would put a liquid that enables me to transform my metallics into liners, and I would put on a cream shadow first and then pack in a shadow on top. It’s giving women the real tools of everything I’ve ever done editorially and backstage. It’s not just letting women roam free with a dusty metallic shadow and telling her, ‘Oh, that’s how we created the Versace shadow.’”
If you need a little guidance, do as McGrath does and just use your fingers. Smudge the cream shadow on your lid for a gleaming metallic effect, or layer the shadow on top to really make it pop. I was lucky enough to test out the kits in person and was frankly blown away by the rich pigments and versatility. At the event, a makeup artist dipped an angled eyeliner brush in the Mehron mixing liquid, then used it to draw a sleek cat-eye on my eye using the silver pigment. Suffice to say, I wore my liner proudly the rest of the day. Because if there’s one thing Pat McGrath knows how to do, it’s giving you the fierce factor.
