Ouai Super Dry Shampoo
Let's be real: Washing hair can prove overwhelming, especially if you have thick hair like mine that makes the process time-consuming. Finding dry shampoos that suit my texture can be challenging. (I've tried a few, but have not had much luck.) They either leave a visible white residue or bring down my volume. I searched the internet for a dry shampoo that I can add to my product rotation and the OUAI Super Dry Shampoo seemed like it would give me exactly what I was looking for. Read on to learn more about my experience.
Best for: All hair types
Uses: Gently cleanses oil in hair and volumizes
Potential allergens: Pentylene Glycol and geraniol
Active ingredients: Panthenol and sea salt
Clean?: No, contains pentylene glycol
About the brand: Jen Atkin, a celebrity hairstylist, founded the OUAI. Jen's objective with OUAI, which is pronounced "way," was to develop the first socially linked haircare company. OUAI began as a haircare brand and has expanded to include body care, perfumes, and candles.
About My Hair: Thick and extends down my back
Shampooing my extra-long, wavy hair can be a hassle. When my scalp becomes too dry or oily, I know it's time to wash it. As mentioned, dry shampoos were never a part of my beauty lineup because of the residue they would often leave on my dark hair and how they feel heavy on my scalp, but on the days I'm tired from going to the gym or feel like I had a tough week, I know I need one.
The Feel: Lightweight and non-sticky
I sprayed OUAI's Dry Shampoo on my hand, it felt totally weightless. It was also non-sticky, which is a huge plus. (Nothing turns me off from a hair product more than a sticky, tacky feeling). Because the spray dispenser is powerful, I found that I had to use caution and avoid applying too much pressure when dry shampooing my hair. Once on my strands, I massaged it in and I felt refreshed.
The Results: Refreshed hair that smelled gorgeous
I used the OUAI dry shampoo after day-two hair or an intense workout and it always left my hairstyle feel cleaner. It added the slightest bit of volume—a benefit I didn't expect, considering my experiences with other dry shampoos. The best part is the delicately sweet scent. I loved it and it made me want to reach for the can more.
The Value: Affordable and worth it
The price of OUAI's Dry Shampoo is $14. Drugstore options may cost $6-$16, while luxe brands can cost as high as $48. While spending less than $10 is my sweet spot for spending, OUAI's dry shampoo's price tag is well worth it. It smells fantastic, feels weightless, and visibly disappears once in hair. It's the best dry shampoo I've tried so far.
Similar Products: You have options
Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo: Amika's Perk Up Dry Shampoo ($26) is suitable for all hair types and leaves a clear finish. It has a pleasant vanilla scent, but it is more expensive than OUAI's Dry Shampoo.
TRESemmé Pro Pure Clean Sulfate-Free Dry Shampoo With Tapioca Cleanser: This TRESemmé dry shampoo ($8) s a great option for those looking for one under ten dollars. It has an invisible finish, so no worrying about that white residue. It does not provide as much volume as OUAI's dry shampoo nor has as much of a sweet scent.
In a word, I'd describe this dry shampoo is amazing. OUAI's Dry Shampoo has a fresh, clean scent and will leave your hair feeling light.
