It would be great if we had time each day to leisurely apply our makeup at a chic vanity every day. Preferably in a caftan, with a glass of iced tea and a luxurious set of powder brushes.
The reality most days? We’re rushing out the door, trying to create a precise cat eye in the car and applying bronzer with our fingers mid-commute; then freshening up mid-day between meetings; and trying to make it all come together for drinks and dinner later that evening. Le sigh.
If that sounds more like your norm than the exception to the rule, you’re in good company. Luckily, there are some amazing products on the market that make applying makeup in a pinch, a cinch!
Flip through to discover your new best beauty friends for your on-the-move life!
Nyx Curve Eyeliner ($15)
This handy tool is our savior for applying a crisp cat eye (or regular line) on the go. The ergonomic design is so easy to hold and makes for a no-fuss application wherever you are—without the high stakes of a finicky liquid formula. No brush, no pot, no fussy tools.
Clinique Chubby Stick Baby Tint Moisturizing Lip Color ($17)
A chubby balm stick might as well be the mascot of life on the move. Virtually impossible to mess up (seriously: you could apply them mirror-free, on the bumpiest train ride, and still emerge with a perfect pout), these fat balm sticks provide sheer, long-lasting, and layerable color.
Pond’s Original Fresh Wet Cleansing Towelettes ($5)
Having a pack of makeup remover wipes in your bag makes you invincible, more or less. They're the secret weapon to a jam-packed day, whether you want to wipe off the morning's makeup for a redux en route to drinks, or need to fix a botched attempt at applying matte red lipstick while walking. Hey, we've been there.
Case in point: we’re never without these Pond’s wipes, which instantly make skin a clean and glowing canvas without water.
Goldfaden MD Sun Visor SPF 30 ($45)
File this product under genius. Sometimes we just don’t have time to layer sunscreen under our makeup in the morning. This fast-drying and oil-free SPF mist can be quickly sprayed over a face full of makeup for a day on the run sans sun damage.
Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick ($28)
The soft rounded tip of these eye shadow pencils is ideal for touching up eye makeup in a flash—far more forgiving than a finely-sharpened point. Turn your work look into an evening look in no time with a few easy smudges on your lower lash line.
Oscar Blandi Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray ($11)
We love dry shampoo in powder form, but it’s a bit too risky when you’re pressed for time (think: dandruff-looking specks of powder on your shoulders unbeknownst to you). Instead, opt for an aerosol that sprays on clear, like Oscar Blandi’s Pronto “invisible” version. No way to mess that up!
Trish McEvoy Correct & Brighten Pen ($40)
This is one of the best concealers and handiest tools we’ve found for our a.m.-to-p.m. makeup bag. The all-in-one pen pumps fresh concealer into the bristles with a click, enabling you to swiftly cover up blemishes and circles without your fingers.
MAC Pro Longwear SPF 20 Compact Foundation ($32)
Mac’s long-wear foundation provides creamy coverage in a natural matte finish, and comes with a mirror and sponge so you can apply or touch up in any scenario. The SPF 20 is just a bonus.
Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets ($5)
Fact: jetting from one place to the next is basically a workout. The busier you are, the more likely you’re sweating—even when it’s not already scorching outside. Enter blotting papers, a necessity when you start to feel, or see, surface oiliness. Just blot and go!
Vincent Longo Lip & Cheek Gel Stain ($23)
Don’t let the word stain scare you. This double-duty gel tint will subtly pep up lips or cheeks with one smooth swipe. You’ll get a flawless finish each time thanks to the applicator wand that you control, and the result is a gorgeous, just-kissed, glowing color.
H20 Plus Face Oasis Mist ($18)
Ahh, hear that? It’s the sound of your face feeling instantly refreshed with one spritz of a hydrating facial mist. H20 Plus Face Oasis Mist provides replenishing moisture and protection, and can help set makeup. The next time you break for a bathroom touch-up, spray this over makeup to look revitalized the remainder of the day.
OPI Correct & Clean Up Corrector Pen ($8)
Wherever you may paint your nails, we aren't judging. We've done it in the car, in the back of drugstores after purchasing, and maybe even in a movie theater or two. Which is why corrector pens exist—to right the haphazard polish applications of the world in seconds. OPI’s Correct & Clean Up pen is discreet and chic, and will swiftly erase smudged cuticles so you don’t like you got a manicure from a 6-year-old.
Kevyn Aucoin Candlelight & Sculpting Creamy Glow Duo ($28)
We’re slightly obsessed with this contouring and highlight duo. The colors are perfect for creating a summer glow and the creamy texture ensures you won’t end up with severe streaks on your face when working with fingertips. Use the sculpt side to define and enhance cheekbones, and the celestial side to induce a lit-from-within ethereal sheen.
