We've been trying to copy the Olsen twins' style and beauty looks since we can remember (here's looking at you, headband bandanas and butterfly clips). And though their style has dramatically evolved since their Passport to Paris days, today we find ourselves entranced by their boho-chic vibe. We imagine their beauty regimens are pretty luxe (have you seen Mary-Kate's wedding ring?!), but we were pleasantly surprised to learn from Allure that their hairstylist, Mark Townsend, actually makes them an all-natural hair conditioner—plus, he kindly shared the recipe. A celebrity-approved conditioner we can scrounge up in our kitchen? Now that's something we can get behind.
The recipe is as follows:
-1 cup raw, unrefined coconut oil
-1 tbsp. jojoba oil
-1 tbsp. macadamia oil
-1 tbsp. almond oil
-1 drop carrot oil (if you have dark hair)
-1 tsp. vitamin E oil
Whisk all ingredients together and apply them from the middle of the hair down to the ends. The secret behind the concoction is that all the oils penetrate deep into the hair shaft for a super-moisturizing effect. Townsend recommends applying it once a week either as a mask or before shampooing for extra protection.
However, blondes beware: Townsend says the carrot will stain light strands, so it's best to skip this step. If you fear you'll be losing out by ditching the carrot, Townsend says it's not necessary, "I'm not sure if there any real benefits to it yet, but it's just a great emollient—I love the way it feels."
Wondering how to get that lived-in texture like the Olsens? Head over to our exclusive interview with the twins to find out, and grab a bottle of Dove Dry Shampoo ($7) while you're at it—you'll see why!
