Olivia Wilde Channeled Bowie at the Venice Film Festival—Here's How to Recreate It

Olivia Wilde made waves this week at the 2022 Venice Film Festival with the world premiere of Don’t Worry Darling, Wilde’s sophomore film as a director. Sure, the film and its cast proved to be headline- and meme-worthy over the past few days, but what really caught our attention were the iconic red carpet looks from the cast, including Florence Pugh’s confetti Valentino moment and Chris Pine’s new bob.

While Wilde wore a gorgeous yellow Gucci gown to the premier, it's actually her look for a Variety event the night before that we can't stop thinking about. There was literally a glimmer in her eye—or rather, a glimmer around her eye, as she sported a crystal-encrusted star, courtesy of makeup artist Wendy Rowe for Pat McGrath Labs.

So, how did this look come about? Using all Pat McGrath Labs products, Rowe started off with the Divine Skin: Rose 001 The Essence ($86) to bring a surge of moisture to Wilde’s skin before evening out her complexion with the Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation ($68) and the Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Blurring Under-Eye Powder ($32).

Rowe then applied the Skin Fetish: Divine Blush in Fleurtatious ($39), a buildable petal color, onto the high points of Wilde’s cheekbones to add a bit of flush to her look while simultaneously lifting her complexion. Then, Rowe employed the Skin Fetish: Highlighter + Balm Duo ($50) in Nude to add a dew to Wilde’s complexion while highlighting the high points of her face, like her cheekbones, browbones, and cupid’s bow.

Rowe used the Perma Precision Liquid Eyeliner in XTREME BLACK ($34) to create an inner and outer wing, similar to a siren eye. Siren eye looks are typically smoked out—but Rowe adds her own twist to the trendy eyeliner application technique by creating a stark black line that extends from the inner corner to the outer corner for a more editorial feel.

And for the star of the show, Rowe created a star around Wilde’s right eye with crystals of varying sizes. After that, a quick run of the FetishEyes Mascara ($32) through Wilde’s lashes and a swipe of the MatteTrance Lipstick ($39) in Peep Show finalized Wilde’s makeup look.

Judging by her red carpet looks of years past, this look is so Olivia Wilde—she tends to flock to fairly neutral base makeup along with a striking eye look to make them pop.

By using minimal products like a nude lipstick, a flush-enhancing blush, and eyeliner and mascara as the only makeup types on Wilde’s eyes, Rowe was able to emphasize Wilde’s crystal star while keeping the rest of her look on-brand with Wilde’s typical makeup looks.

Along with her laisse-faire beach waves, Wilde’s star-studded (or studded-star?) look juxtaposed with her structured blazer equipped with high shoulder for a look that screams Burning Man comes to Italia.
