Nicole Kidman's skin is consistently clear, fresh, and dewy, and it honestly leaves us a little bit incredulous. How does she do it? She's a mother, wife, (award-winning) actress, and more. So how does she have time to keep her skin looking that good?
Luckily for us, she recently opened up about her skincare regimen to Vogue. Sure, she religiously applies sunscreen (Neutrogena Sunscreen, $13, to be exact), hydrates, and sets time aside for fitness. But what's the secret, the hidden gem, the bottled magic that she's keeping from us all?
As it turns out, it's a simple practice she does every single day that rejuvenates and energizes her complexion.
"When I wake up in the morning, I love splashing cold water on my face or sometimes taking a super cold shower," Kidman said. "I think I do that because when I was young, I would swim in the ocean in Australia, so there’s something connected to starting the day with cold water. There’s something about the ocean—the salt—that feels so good for you."
This isn't the first time that someone has suggested the anti-aging benefits of cold water. After all, there's a reason ice rollers are so popular. While there aren't many scientific studies conducted on the topic, it's thought that exposing your skin to low-temperature water increases circulation.
Through increasing circulation, you allow your skin to take away the bad stuff and bring more of the good stuff to the surface. In other words, debris and toxins are circulated out while oxygen-rich blood cells are circulated in. It can also calm inflammation (aka redness, for those of us with rosacea).
