Stranger Things' Natalia Dyer Brought Us With Her to Get Ready for the Emmys

We're used to seeing 21-year-old Natalia Dyer in striped knit sweaters, minimal makeup, and messy adolescent waves as Nancy Wheeler on Stranger Things. But this year at the Emmys, we got an up-close and personal look at her more glamorous side. Celebrity makeup artist Vincent Oquendo worked with Dyer to achieve a super-sophisticated makeup look for the red carpet this year—and we got an exclusive glimpse at his process.

To complement Dyer's glitzy gold dress and soft vintage waves, Oquendo envisioned a glowy modern take on Old Hollywood makeup. He used a smorgasbord of makeup brands both drugstore and luxury (including an intriguing gel lipstick we'd never seen before) and gave us the exclusive details on his process. Keep scrolling to get ready with Vincent Oquendo and Natalia Dyer for the 2018 Emmys red carpet.

"I had a bevy of products to create a subtle sheen and lovely pink look on Natalia ranging from Shiseido, EOS, Charlotte Tilbury, and Pat McGrath. I started with eye makeup because eye application takes the longest. I curled Natalia's lashes and used Shiseido Kajal Ink Artist in Kabuki White ($25) as an eye shadow base. I then used the Pat McGrath Eyeshadow Highlighter Palette ($50) featuring Pink, Gold, and Deep Bronze shades. I paled out the lid with the pink shade and packed dark bronze on top of that. I used a Taupe shade from the Charlotte Tilbury Palette in The Sophisticate ($53) to go under the lash line and smudged it in the crease to define the eyes. Elizabeth Violet ($27) from Charlotte Tilbury was used to rim her waterline. Lastly, I defined her brows with Shiseido Ink Brow Trio in #2 in Taupe ($24)."

"To complement the eyes, I created a pretty, pale pink look on Natalia's lips. I prepped Natalia's lips with EOS Crystal in Hibiscus Peach ($5), which is the ultimate base for lipstick application thanks to its wax-free formula that allows for color products to sit beautifully on top without feeling too heavy. I lined the lips with Charlotte Tilbury Lip Liner in Pillow Talk ($22) and then applied Shiseido Visionary Gel Lipstick in Rose Muse ($26)."

"To add shine to the perfect pale pink lip, I took my finger and pressed EOS Crystal over the lips. The pure nourishing oils provided the perfect sheen."

"To create a glowy, natural face, I used some other favorites. I started with Kevin Aucoin Skin Enhancer in shade #4 ($48) and then sprayed her face with Dior Airflash Spray Foundation ($62) for the perfect finish. I used a Beauty Blender Puff ($15) and Hourglass Loose Powder, $46 (which has a beautiful sheen that is never talky), to make the skin look super buttery and pretty. Hoola Light ($30) from Benefit was used underneath her cheekbones, which I blended with Flesh in Pinky ($18). Shiseido Inner Light Cheek Powder in Inner Glow ($29) went over her cheek to give it a gloss."

"We did one final pass with EOS Crystal to add weightless hydration once Natalia was dressed in her gorgeous gold Dolce & Gabbana gown. The weightless hydration helped set the look for the night and added the perfect jewel-like finish to complement the gown."
