Nars Orgasm Afterglow Lip Balm Review
@gouldhallie

I don't wear makeup for the purpose of attention from possible suitors—it's actually quite the opposite. While, naturally, flirtation is fun, I choose my particular products based on a million other factors: my mood, what I have to do that day, if a new product launched, etc. But that doesn't stop me from making a mental list of the formulas that tend to turn up the dial when it comes to consensual affection. This lip balm does just that.

It's no surprise, really, as Nars launched this hydrating lip balm with a subtle hint of peachy pink and golden shimmer to mimic the flush of its iconic Orgasm Blush ($39). The shade gained notoriety when it launched, first the blush in 1999 and then many spinoff products thereafter, due to its universal nature. It looks that good on everyone. And, of course, there's the fact that it's called Orgasm. I mean, subtlety has always been passed over by Nars in favor of audaciousness, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

See, the balm is sheer, glowy, and dewy, with just a hint of pink. It plumps and hydrates my lips, making them the focal point of my face without ever really having to do anything except swipe it on. No smudges, no drying, no annoying side effects of other bold lip choices. At first, it started with just a few side glances at a bar the first time I wore it. Then, on a date. Now, I can't even count the number of times I've gotten hit on while wearing this lip balm—and, to be completely frank, it's not like I get hit on that often. It's all about the balm and the confidence I have after dabbing it on.

Afterglow is a blend of monoi oil (the result of macerating the native Tiaré flower in refined coconut extract for at least 10 days) and antioxidant ingredients to help protect, hydrate, and soften your lips upon contact. That, and the shimmery, peachy goodness it yields. I'll never give up my matte reds and vinyl glosses, but for now, this is the product that has my heart.

Check out a few more plumping, glossing, and hydrating favorites.

FYI: I've lived in NYC for seven years and see these makeup products everywhere.
