We don’t know who needs to hear this, but having strong handwashing practices is an absolute must to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Don’t get us wrong, standing at our sinks for 20 seconds lathering our hands can become a bit redundant, but who says you can’t get creative with the soap you use and use it as a little pick-me-up each time?
- Wet with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap and apply soap.
- Lather by rubbing your hands together with the soap. Don’t forget the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
- Scrub for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
- Rinse under clean, running water until all the soap is gone.
- Dry using a clean towel or air dry your hands.
Obviously, we aren’t the only ones looking for small moments of joy in our hand-washing routine. Japanese brand MyKirei by KAO launched its Flower Foam Hand Wash ($18) earlier this year and promptly sold out everywhere. Why? The hand soap is going viral because it dispenses a perfect foam flower with every pump—it's no wonder the soap hasn’t stayed in stock since its launch back in April.
Eager to know what inspired the floral sensation, we spoke to MyKirei by KAO’s Director of Marketing, Marissa Vallillo, to get the details about the foam hand wash that's bringing so many people an added moment of joy in this very mundane (but important!) task.
"In today's world, we are all striving to find ways to make our environments cleaner and healthier, and our Flower Foam Hand Wash does just that,” Vallillo shares with us exclusively. "We are reinventing the ritual of handwashing. With our innovative delivery system, the pump leaves behind a beautifully fragrant foam flower imprint with the simple push of your palm."
Launched at the height of the pandemic—which Vallillo says was pure coincidence—the family-friendly, portion-controlled soap not only has germ-fighting powers, but is also infused with Japanese yuzu fruit extract that's high in vitamin C and can help brighten the skin.
The gentle hand wash formula also includes rice water, which promises to keep your hands hydrated all day long, no matter how many times a day you wash your hands. A hand soap that kills germs and doesn't dry out our already-cracked knuckles? Sign us up.
"MyKirei by KAO is built on the Japanese belief that caring for ourselves, our society, and our world makes our lives more beautiful," Vallillo tells us. "The act of washing your hands is a true embodiment of this philosophy. It helps prevent the spread of viruses and helps to keep you, your family, and your friends healthy." Additionally, the hand soap is refillable, which reduces waste and is kinder to the environment.
Since its launch on Amazon last month, the product has already sold out twice. We got the exclusive scoop that it just got restocked—we recommend moving fast so you don't miss it. Trust us, your hands will thank you.
