Sephora is the glossy, well-lit mecca of all things beauty—a colorful, organized collection of every eye shadow, moisturizer, and dry shampoo you've ever wanted. I can't even begin to figure out how many hours I've spent there, sifting carefully through each aisle in search of the next must-have formula.
While an afternoon of testing, applying, and searching sounds like heaven to me, it's understandable not everyone wants to while away an afternoon looking for products. So to help, I reached out to a few former employees to get the low-down on the offerings that always sell out first. That way, you can get a jump on scooping them up before anyone else does. Keep scrolling for the most sought-after products at Sephora (and what to buy if they're sold out).
"Anastasia Beverly Hills is a cult brand," one former employee notes." So when she launched a permanent palette, everyone went nuts. Plus the formula is smooth and easy to blend. The price point is reasonable for a high-end palette, most run around the $50 range, and the color combinations are great for different skin tones."
"Everyone is looking for perfect skin, and this treatment addresses concerns for all skin types," a former employee said of Sunday Riley's signature product. "It has anti-aging properties, retexturizes, and it's an amazing [chemical] exfoliator. I think the main reason for its popularity," she explains, "is it yields results overnight. Your skin will feel so smooth."
"There is so much hype around Kat Von D's liquid lipsticks (especially in shades like Lolita, Lolita 2, and Vampira)," says another former employee. "Lolita is always sold out because it's that perfect wearable nude that anyone and everyone will love—it's universal."
"The concept behind Make Up For Ever's primers is so different than anything else on the market," a former employee mused. "They are meant to be layered and personalized to suit your skin type. It's especially helpful for combination skin, and clients find that really helpful; they love it. There's a formula for mattifying, smoothing, and hydrating. Plus, very little product is needed, and it performs so well. That's why it’s repurchased and sold out again and again."
"Anastasia Beverly Hills has been killing it with all the new launches," a former employee says. "When her liquid lipsticks finally came to Sephora, they sold out online and there was no stock in the store. They make every shade, the formula is long-wearing and comfortable, and the price point is more affordable than other high-end brands."
"During my time at Sephora," one former employee explained, "the Naked palette had recently dropped. We could not keep it on the shelves. There is such a cult following for these brands, especially Urban Decay. Plus, at that time, these formulas were so new to the Sephora market."
"This is a special foundation," one Sephora employee notes. "The community surrounding the brand is huge and this product is full-coverage and has massive staying power." It's that lit-from-within, flawless finish you see on YouTube tutorials and those mesmerizing Instagram videos.
