This Hairstyle Ruled the Met Gala Red Carpet

This year's MET Gala was full of grandiose beauty looks, from angelic headpieces to extravagant lashes (hi, Gaga and Gigi). Our favorite celebs turned out all the stops for this year's theme of Camp: Notes on Fashion (camp as in over-the-top, not the sleepaway kind). There was Ashley Graham's embellished pony featuring pins from Gucci and Justine Marjan x Kitsch. There was Lady Gaga's four outfit changes. There was Katy Perry's...chandelier. But campy hair accessories aside, we couldn't help but notice that the most popular hairstyle on the MET red carpet was surprisingly simple: the high pony. Or rather, sky-high pony. Camp is all about extravagance, after all. Did the hairstylists take a cue from our beloved Ariana Grande? Did the ponytails bring the wearers closer to God? So many questions we'll never have answers to, but in the meantime, feast your eyes on the best sky-high ponies at the 2019 MET.

Hailey Bieber

We're getting Brigitte Bardot vibes from Hailey Bieber's look, if Brigitte Bardot wore bejeweled Alexander Wang thongs.

Elle Fanning

We're obsessed with Elle Fanning's I Love Jeannie pony (and her campy nails).

Alicia Vikander

We need a back view of Alicia Vikander's tendriled hair situation, stat.

Tessa Thompson

The true definition of goals is when your ponytail is too long to fit in the frame of the photo.

Lily Aldridge

Beauty tip: keep your ponytail smooth and sleek to better show off your latex bodysuit.

Gwen Stefani

Gwen's ponytail is making us wanna hollaback, girl.

Candice Swanepoel

What great lengths Candice must have gone through to get this ponytail.

Penelope Cruz

Very few people can pull off a perky curled pony with baby bangs. Penelope Cruz is one of those people.

Nicki Minaj

Matching your ponytail to your cotton-candy dress—it's a vibe.

Cara Delevingne

Cara, you continue to surprise us.
