Unlike most of her peers, Molly Sims doesn’t seem all that fazed about aging. “Well, we all age,” she tells Byrdie straight. “It’s just a fact of life!” Her attitude—which is more about treating your body well and less about zapping every possible wrinkle—is refreshing. That’s why it made perfect sense that Garnier named her the lifestyle expert for the brand’s SkinActive line. “The line is for women who live a do-it-all lifestyle,” Sims explains. “I’m a mom, a wife, and have a career, so I need products that will work overtime with me.” Her favorite product is the brand’s Clearly Brighter Moisturizer SPF 30 ($13), which she credits for giving her a “bright glow.” As for the rest of her skincare routine? “I remove all my makeup with a micellar water, which I’ve been using for years and is super effective,” she says. (Garnier recently released its own version.) “If I feel congested, I’ll exfoliate, but I try to avoid doing that too often—only when I need a deeper clean.” After that, she reaches for Indie Lee’s all-natural CoQ10 Toner ($32), dabs Tata Harper’s Eye Cream ($95) below her eyes, applies a “little spot treatment” if she’s breaking out (models—they’re just like us!), and then goes to bed. In general, her attitude toward anti-aging is all about prevention. “For me, anti-aging means taking the time to live a healthy lifestyle way before aging is even a topic or issue,” she says. “The more you take care of yourself, the less noticeable aging will be. It’s all about being proactive.” Sims notes that it’s important to take care of your body as a whole, remembering along the way to eat healthily, exercise, wear sunscreen, and follow a skincare routine (here’s a straightforward skincare guide, if you don’t know where to start).
When we asked the secret to her signature blond tresses, Sims was quick to point to her colorist, Tracey Cunningham. “She’s a master at what she does and always makes my hair look and feel amazing,” she raves. Other than that, her secret is simple: shampooing as infrequently as possible (a tip she says is “crazy” but effective). Product-wise, Sims swears by Leonor Greyl’s line of products, and most notably the cult Huile de Leonor Greyl ($60) hair oil, of which she’s “ob-ssessed.” Olaplex is another hair savior she names, crediting it for keeping her blond hair strong and healthy, as well as fixing any breakage she’s had.
Lastly, we had to ask Sims: What’s her secret to balancing it all? The hyphenate beauty icon shared a valuable insight. “The best advice I’ve ever received is to pick a lane,” she says. “If I’m working, I’m all in. If I’m with my family, I’m not distracted with work. This also helps with productivity!” Seems so simple that even us mere mortals could do it.
