Quick: Close your eyes and picture Meghan Markle's go-to makeup look. Are your eyes open now? Cool. We bet you just envisioned something along the lines of dewy skin, visible freckles, a smoky eye, and bare (albeit moisturized) lips, similar to the same fresh-faced moment she so beautifully executed on her wedding day. Take a pass through photos of the Duchess over the past few years, and this is essentially Markle's capsule makeup wardrobe. Rarely will you see her delve into a daring wash of color on the lids, a graphic cat-eye, or a bold statement lip, the latter of which makeup artist and friend Daniel Martin says she's tried and will probably never revisit.
"The one time she did a red lip, she just didn’t feel comfortable in it," he tells People. "She likes to talk and she's not a fussy person, so she doesn't want to have to worry about anything."
Given the simplicity and consistency of Markle's go-to look, it's assumed by now she'd be able to create it without the constant help of a professional, which Martin confirms. "She's been doing her makeup herself," he explains. "She's not fussy—she's just trying to get it on and get out the door." In addition to wanting to forgo the upkeep of a red lip (though, might we suggest Flesh Proud Flesh Matte Liquid Lip Color in Brazen for its vibrancy and staying power?), Markle may not be "allowed" to wear daring makeup now that she's a royal. She's already had to commit to pantyhose and a soft pink nail (no dark shades!), so there's no telling what's in the rulebook for the products she puts on her face.
Daring or not, Markle's look is timeless and elegant. If you want to copy the look yourself, try some of the below products.
