Shimmery makeup and the summertime are a match made in heaven. That's why I am so damn excited to share with you some exclusive, shimmer-related makeup news: Mecca Cosmetica is launching two new shades of the best-selling Enlightened Lit From Within Powder, as well as three limited edition Enlightened Eye Polishes. To add some context (and hype), the Enlightened powder was originally launched as part of the Mecca Holiday collection back in 2016, and sold out in a hot minute. In order to give the people what they want (the emails from customers were relentless, so I hear), Mecca brought the powder back permanently, but now it's expanding the franchise to include two new shades, and three shades in the matching eye polishes. How good?!
I've had a play at my desk, and can confirm the products are creamy, foolproof, and give a glow only previously accessible by the Em Rata's and Gigi's of the world. In other words, these are what your summer makeup kit is calling for. But, in order to shed a little more light (see what I did there), I've enlisted the help of Mecca lead artist Sally Axford for some how-to advice you'll find below.
These launch on October 2, so run to your nearest Mecca, or shop online if you're still in lazy, long weekend mode (hey, we're not here to judge). Happy shopping.
Tell me about the two new Enlightened shades?
The new Lit From Within pigments (Gold and Bronze) cater to all complexions. They still have that gorgeous, metallic foiled effect we love from the original highlighter, but the base tone on each of these shades are deeper and richer.
What's your favourite way to use them?
I love sweeping them through the tops of the cheekbones, temple and eye socket, and then using the original shade right on the high points of the face to create a diffused three-dimensional glow. A wash of it over the lips also highlights and adds dimension.
And the eye polishes! What makes them so great?
The Eye Polishes have amazing impact for a formula that is so incredibly easy to apply! They actually work best with fingers as they are a bit of a unique hybrid between a loose glitter and a cream, so fingertips really make them grab properly and provide a super targeted application. So great for those days where you want a quick eye look that will get you all the attention.
What's the easiest way to get glowy, shimmery skin for summer?
Firstly, I’d amp up a glowy base by using the Lit From Within powders on the complexion and bring it through the eyes. Then I'd smudge a brown cream liner through the lashline before applying the Eye Polishes on top with my fingertips. I think it looks best when the highlight and the eye colour melt into each other. I’d then anchor the look with lashings of black mascara and a matte nudey peach shade lipstick, or even a red to contrast against the glowy skin.
