Transforming your body by beginning a demanding workout routine and strict diet for a movie role is not a new tactic that actors use. It’s pretty common to hear about fabulously fit stars and their extreme regimens while shooting a movie. But we're pretty certain Margot Robbie takes the cake (literally) for the best way to get in shape: no dieting. In the new The Legend of Tarzan film, Margot is completely owning the screen in an unexpected way.
Robbie dished to TV Week, "It's the 19th century [in the film]—if she's got a bit of weight on her, it's probably a good thing. I'm not going to look thin just for the sake of it." The blond bombshell walked right past the gym and into London pubs to test out the country's native cuisine. "It was my first time living in London properly and I wanted to try every pub," she said.
Contrarily, her co-star Alexander Skarsgård cut out sugar, gluten, wheat, dairy, and alcohol while shooting, eating six small meals a day (and working out twice a day) to maintain his shirtless sinewy frame. Jealous of Robbie's liberating meal plans, he would ask her on Monday mornings to describe whatever she ate over the weekend, as if to live vicariously through her savory meals.
"It was like food porn for Alex," Robbie told People. "I was like, 'I had this and I ate that, and for dessert, I had that.' And he was, like, welling up. Actually, I really felt bad." She teased, "To begin with I was like, 'Mmm, mmm, mmm, I'm eating cake and you're not!' And then after a while, I felt really bad for him, so I'd eat my food somewhere else so he couldn't see."
A standing ovation totally goes to Robbie for her ability to defy the typical maintenance required for a movie, keeping her role as authentic as possible. Though we will say, noshing on cake and pasta is something that should be reserved for say, a famous actress who probably follows a healthy eating regimen when she's not on set.
