Day
I’m a huge fan of using moisturizers and oils; that’s kind of my primer before I put foundation on. I want you to start embracing oil because it makes a big difference in your makeup look.
- Base: Skipping foundation Nikki spot concealed with Nars Soft Matte Concealer and a fluffy eyeshadow brush. She says, “Remember your formula, if you’re using face oils it’s okay to put on a matte foundation or concealer. If you’re using cream you can use glossy formulas.” Set just where you need it with a translucent powder and the same brush, avoid powdering your glow.
“I always highlight the sides of the nose because that’s really what’s going to pick up in pictures.” - Nikki DeRoest
- Blush and Bronze: “I’m a big fan of using cream, I think they look the most natural, especially for a red carpet. I always start with cream and then use a powder," she shares. A tip that’s also helpful for wearing makeup with a mask because it seals it and helps it last longer. She warms up Kosas blush ($34) on her hand and presses it into her cheeks.
- Eyes: Applying with her hands and a brush she uses Hourglass Scattered Lights in Burnish ($29) all over the lid and highlights the inner corner with the Unearthed palette. “I always like to have a cool and warm palette depending on what I’m wearing," says Nikki. "I tend to use more, I guess 'expensive' products when it comes to my skin when it comes to eyeshadows, lip or eyebrows, I’ll play with drugstore.” She uses a gold shade from Kokie Cosmetics $8 eyeshadow palette on the inner corner of her eyes.
- Brows: “I think the trick with a pencil or brow product is to choose a product lighter. The product ends up going on way darker and you don’t want it to be too heavy,” Nikki advises. Powder brows with translucent powder to help the product adhere.
Night
Keeping many of the same products (hello, versatility), she went back in with a few new ones to update the look for fuller coverage and longer wear.
- Base: Starting in the center of her face she pressed Armani's Power Fabric Foundation ($64) into her skin.
- Contour and Blush: “With contour, I push it up into my cheeks using a lot of pressure. […] It’s easier to use a cream to contour. [For blush] I like to go from the apple of the cheek and push it into my contour,” she explained.
- Set: To set your cream products but "keep it all really natural" Nikki says, "I like to mix Dim with my cheek products to soften it.”
- Eyes: Adding an eye pencil, she tight lines the waterline. For perfecting that cat-eye, look straight ahead and etch out the line with an eye pencil and blend out with a brush, a technique you can use even with a liquid liner.
- Lashes: The key to lashes that look like falsies? Layering, she applies two mascaras, focusing Pat McGrath's liner on the ends of her lashes for that extra length and volume.
Boom! Just twenty minutes later, and you've mastered two Hailey Bieber-worthy looks.
