Reviewed: MAC Wash & Dry Powder Blush in Hipness

As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life). “Reviewed” is a new series where we report on some of the best products we’ve tried. Whether it’s a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you’ll find all of our favorites in this column. Enjoy!

MAC's new Wash & Dry collection for summer is a product junkie’s dream. All of the packaging is a stunning, psychedelic, rainbow-sherbet-ombré work of art. Though I fangirled over the entire line, I fell head over heels in love with the Powder Blush in Hipness ($25). First of all, everything about it is just that—hip: the color, the packaging, the name, and the performance. It all screams summer. In terms of powder blush, the only one I’ve ever worn and ever been loyal to is Nars’s Orgasm, and MAC’s is almost a dead ringer for it (the closest I’ve ever come across), leaning slightly pinker than peach and with the same light-reflecting, not glittery, particles. I adored the pretty, flushed, summery look it gave my cheeks in a powdery matte finish. But aside from loving something yourself, it’s my firm belief that the best indication of a product’s worth is if/when you get compliments on it—what else, or more, could you ask for? The first time I wore the blush to work, my friend (who is not a beauty editor) went out of her way after a meeting to tell me, “Your blush looks so pretty!” The blush itself got a shout-out. That sealed the deal for me. It’s truly one of the prettiest blushes I’ve encountered, both the item itself—how it looks sitting on your vanity, beckoning you toward it—and how it looks once applied. Natural but special, pretty and pink. My only regret was that I only found its effect to last for about four hours before it seemed like there was no color left on my cheeks, but with how gorge it is, I’m more than happy to tote it around for a reapplication session.
