When I log onto my Zoom call with actress, producer, and creator Liza Koshy from her sunny home in Cali, she's glowing. Her secret, besides the natural lighting? The multi-tasking Milk It Shimmering Hydrafluid ($20) from her capsule collection with clean beauty brand C’est Moi. The capsule collection, aptly titled "One of One," is an EWG (Environmental Working Group)-verified and dermatologist-tested line of skincare and makeup products now available for pre-sale and available November 16.
"I love playing with makeup, but being so experimental, I have broken out many times from my experiments," Liza says over the call. She reveals she's always had sensitive skin, and dealing with eczema among other skin issues led to many trips to the dermatologist growing up. You would never guess Liza's skin woes, however, judging from the number of vibrant selfies that fill her Instagram grid (where you will also catch those makeup "experiments" she mentions).
A swag package she received containing C’est Moi products led her to discover the brand that she eventually became an ambassador for. "I was able to pronounce everything on the back and that's not usual for me to be able to have that trust and confidence in something immediately," she recalls. "So I went ahead and put it on my skin and loved it. It felt like someone cared about it before they made it and cared about me before they even knew me. That's when I reached out to C’est Moi and said I want to create with you guys."
FYI, it's the hyaluronic acid and jojoba milk in the Milk It product that's responsible for Liza's Zoom call glow. While hyaluronic acid seems to be in all our favorite hydrating products these days, the latter is lesser-known but should be on your radar for its excellent lipid-replenishment powers that don't leave you greasy.
It felt like someone cared about it before they made it and cared about me before they even knew me.
"We won’t launch anything unless it’s been tested on 250 people who claim to have severely sensitive skin," chimes in Jennifer Saul, C’est Moi Beauty’s SVP of marketing.
"One of One is just this really like playful, bold brand that we've created. It's crushing the stereotype or stigma of clean beauty—that it can't be colorful, or that you can't get this high pigment and shimmer with clean beauty," Jennifer explains, "[This capsule collection] can be subtle, but also be as bold as your personality."
The collection certainly is versatile and the playful names are a plus. The Give Em' Lip (& Cheek) tinted balm is ideal for natural all-over color (Jennifer's favorite shade is Talk Back, a pretty pink). The highly pigmented Think Twice ($12) dual-sided eyeliner pencils that won't budge (seriously, I tested a few on my hand and they stayed put) glide on the lash line or water line easily. One multitasking tip from Liza is using the brown shade to dot on a few faux freckles that will fool anyone into that you're a natural freckle-face.
The packaging itself is even versatile and recyclable—the brand has teamed up with Terracycle to make the recycling process free and easy. The tin for the Give Em' Face Mask Artist set ($42) is reusable and Liza jokes, "We created these little latches on the side so that if you want, you can attach your Gucci strap on there or your Target Mossimo Supply Co brand strap." But you can also stash whatever you want in it—makeup, hair clips, school supplies—the possibilities are endless.
The unique skincare multi-masking kit she's created let's you become a "mask artist" the same way one would flex their makeup artistry skills. Instead, of using one face mask allover, she uses different masks catered to problem areas: Hydrating "Butta‘ Face," Brightening "Glow Face," Exfoliating "Face Off," and Calming "Resting B* Face." Sounds genius, no?
"Why can't you be an artist with your masks? It's like painting your face in the different ways that you need. Like, I really need an exfoliant on my nose," she says of her favorite one from the bunch and what will be her go-to winter skin remedy. It makes perfect sense since the kit's exfoliant is packed with good-for-your-skin ingredients that promote cell turnover and hydration: lactic, malic and citric acids, plus green tea, aloe vera, and squalane. "I have the outward pores that are trying to see the world," she says with a laugh. "I have a dry chin area, but I also have a greasier forehead so this kit allows me to construct a mask of my own."
Navigating the Houston humidity where she spent the past few months, the dry California heat where she resides currently, and looking ahead to winter, she’s taking extra care of her skin. “It’s so dry here and I have naturally drier skin,” she explains. “So I really hydrate. I’m exfoliating with my F(ace) Balm Cleansing Duo ($16) and putting on my Milk It underneath all my makeup to give me that glow. I make sure my sunscreen is on. Even in the winter I still wear sunscreen. The sun is always out here and she is not here to play.” Spoken like a true beauty boss, Liza.
The collection is available for pre-sale now and will be available to shop on November 16 at Cestmoi.com.
