As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life). “Reviewed” is a new series where we report on some of the best products we’ve tried. Whether it’s a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day, or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you’ll find all of our favorites in this column. Enjoy!
>As much as I love my alarmingly large collection of shampoos and serums, I love my snooze button more. Thus, when a beauty product comes my way that requires little to no effort at all but promises a grand payoff, I usually put it at the top of my “must-try” list. Such is the case with Living Proof’s buzzy new hair product, the Perfect Hair Day Night Cap Overnight Perfector ($28). It promises to provide up to a week of shiny, vibrant, more manageable hair, and—the best part—works while you’re sleeping. So basically, bringing me one step closer towards my Sleeping Beauty aspirations (sleep forever, wake up looking amazing and kissable—#goals).
>The consistency of the product feels like a light lotion, and you’re instructed to apply it to either dry or damp strands before bed—I decided to try it on dry hair first. Be warned: the scent is strong, but smells like a mix of fresh laundry and a tropical drink, so actually ended up being one of my favorite parts of the product. It’s nice drifting off to sleep, inhaling the pleasant, slightly fruity scent—even my boyfriend commented on how good my hair smelled (with a tone of almost shocked surprise...whatever that means).
Living Proof co-owner, Jennifer Aniston, promised there wouldn’t be any residue on my pillow afterwards, and sure enough, the product absorbed instantly and my pillowcase wasn’t the slightest bit greasy the next morning. My hair, however, did feel slightly weighed down. It looked shinier, perhaps, but it definitely felt like there was product in my hair and I couldn’t get over the slightly sticky feeling. Maybe I had used too much? I tend to be overzealous with beauty products I’m excited about, so I decided to give it another go a few days later. This time, I used it on damp strands before bed. And then, when I woke up, I finally saw what all the fuss was about. My (extremely lightened) hair was so much softer, shinier, and healthier-looking. It not only felt softer, but my formerly straw-like strands had a shine and movement to them I hadn’t seen since before I had gotten my hair colored.
>As a brunette with lightened ends, the struggle is real when it comes to finding hydrating, smoothing, silkening products that 1.) don’t require a ton of effort and 2.) don’t weigh my hair down. Living Proof’s patented healthy hair molecule, OFPMA, was the tall, cool drink of water my parched strands needed. I love how easy to use this product is, and I’ve found that you can even use in the a.m. on freshly showered strands, as a makeshift leave-in conditioner. (I would recommend using it on damp or wet strands, since my dry hair experience didn't end as well.) After using it for a few weeks, I’m not sure sure if my hair has completely transformed—it still veers on the dry side—but it’s definitely the best its looked in a long, long time. So good, that I’ve officially added this product to my nightly beauty routine—and coming from someone who can barely muster the energy to brush her hair before bed, that’s saying a lot.
