After a particularly intense facial peel, I had resigned myself to the fact that I would soon start to, well, peel. Then I discovered Lancôme’s Énergie De Vie Nuit Overnight Recovery Mask ($65), and decided to fight back. I don’t have dry skin, so normally I wouldn’t look twice at an overnight moisture mask. But, in a desperate attempt to soothe my now-sensitive skin and avoid the unsightly peeling that was soon to come, I slathered the mask on before bed and hoped for the best.
The next morning, I woke up to a pleasant surprise: my skin looked drastically better. Instead of being dry and flaky (which it tends to be after I get a peel—beauty is pain, right?), my complexion was soft and bright. I used it for the next few nights, until my skin was completely healed. And while it didn’t stop all of the peeling, it did make the healing process much smoother (quite literally).
The only problem with this miracle product? Unless you naturally sleep on your back, a lot of the cream is going to end up moisturizing your pillow instead of your face. But through trial and error, I found an easy solution: after washing your face, rub some of the product in as you would a normal moisturizer. Then, add a thicker layer, more like a mask, on top a few minutes before you go to sleep; this lets some of the product sink in before your face hits your pillow. Then, just snooze away, knowing you’ll wake up with glowing skin!
