Lady Gaga is bringing the '80s back. The musician and actor channeled the decade of glamour, opulence and lots of blush with her sleek, sculpted updo, dramatically lined eyes and bright neon red glossy lipstick.

Gaga, who was nominated for her song "Hold My Hand" from Top Gun: Maverick and set to perform at the ceremony, made her much-anticipated appearance on the Oscars red carpet in a straight-off-the-runway black Versace gown—literally, Gigi Hadid just wore it—with a sheer bodice complete with a cone bra and faux corset details and a drop waist ball skirt. A shimmering vintage Tiffany necklace with over 600 diamonds and matching bracelet and ring added a dose of Old Hollywood luxury to the goth-inspired gown.

Gaga's Oscars beauty look was all about color, and lots of it. Her slicked-back French braid kept the focus on her face, which featured a deep rosy-bronze pink on her lids for romantic definition, bright pink blush and lots of thick, bold black winged liner on both top and bottom lashes. Instead of matching her lips to the rest of her makeup, Gaga opted for a blindingly bright neon red glossy lip; she could have walked right off the set of the iconic Robert Palmer "Addicted to Love" music video, and it turns out that was exactly the inspo behind her makeup.

"We wanted to do a fun, more is more glam look. More color, more pigment, more fun," Haus Labs Global Artistry Director and makeup artist Sarah Tanno exclusively tells Byrdie. "It all started because we wanted to go wild with our new Haus Labs Color Fuse Blush ($38) because we are addicted to blush!"

Tanno used two shades of the Color Fuse Blush for Gaga's '80s-esque cheeks. "The Haus Labs blushes are great for layering so we used a draping blush technique for an ombré cheek, using shades Watermelon Bliss and Dragon Fruit Daze. Dragon Fruit Daze served as the base, and then we layered with Watermelon Bliss to add depth." To get that draping technique, Tanno used a fan brush to apply Dragon Fruit Daze (a cool pink), then added Watermelon Bliss (a bright red) with a fluffy eyeshadow brush for extra dimension. "I like to first set my Haus Labs Triclone Skin Tech Foundation ($45) with the Bio-Blurring Loose Setting Powder ($38)," Tanno explained of the seamless finish. "The blush will melt seamlessly into the skin and you can achieve this vibe with any shades you love." For the glammed-out lined eyes, Tanno used the Optic Intensity Eco Gel Eyeliner Pencil in Black Onyx ($22) rimmed in the waterline and smoked outwards and upwards. The super-shiny, traffic-stopping red lip came courtesy Atomic Shake Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Cherry Shine ($26).

To craft that elegantly sleek braid, stylist Frederic Aspiras applied Joico's Jo Whip Firm Hold Design Foam ($22) to Gaga's damp hair before drying to create grip, then blew out her hair with a large paddle brush in the direction of the braid. Aspiras used a curling iron to create a bit of bend to help keep Gaga's hair in place, then spritzed Joico's Hair Shake Liquid-to-Powder Texturizing Finisher ($25) to her dry hair. He used JoiGel Firm Styling Gel 08 for control, saying it provides a "very smooth and flawless finish" to hair. Once the star's hair was fully braided, Aspiras sprayed a toothbrush with Joico Power Spray Fast-Dry Finishing Spray ($23) and combed it through the braid to soften and secure any flyaways, and the megastar was ready to take the red (or champagne) carpet—and the stage.
