Even though Kim owns her own namesake beauty brand, Kendall acts as an ambassador for Estee Lauder, and Khloe and Kourtney have each collaborated on various beauty products in the past, we still consider Kylie to be the reigning queen of makeup in the Kardashian-Jenner household. Why? It's simple. She was the first sister to step into the beauty space, launching Kylie Cosmetics all the way back in 2015, and she has since amassed a billion dollar business...That's why we don't think it's a stretch to say that she has the makeup market on lock.
Now she's moving past makeup to take on the skincare market (because diversifying your billion-dollar beauty business is key, right? We're pretty sure her 'Momager,' Kris Jenner, would say so). Today, her first ever skincare line launched. It's called Kylie Skin, and it includes seven distinct products that cover all of the basic skincare steps—there's a face wash, scrub, toner, moisturizer, serum, and eye cream, respectively. Keep reading to get all the buzzy details.
Here's the lowdown: each one of the seven products is cruelty-free and vegan. Plus, they're all formulated without parabens, sulfates, or gluten (as we all know, the ingredients that aren't found in a formula are just as important as those that are). The price point is what we'd call budget-friendly. Every single product is $28 or less. As for packaging, each product fits a minimalist, albeit bright pink, aesthetic.
At the time of launch, the products are sold exclusively on the brand's website, although we wouldn't be surprised to see them introduced into Ulta in the near future. It would only make sense, considering some of Jenner's makeup products are sold there. But before we get ahead of ourselves, let's take a look at each individual product, shall we?
First up we have the Foaming Face Wash. It's formulated with glycerin to balance moisture, kiwi seed oil to brighten the skin, and sodium hyaluronate (which is a derivative of hyaluronic acid that hydrates the skin). There are also cleansing agents derived from coconut. As for its texture, expect to feel a lightweight lathering foam.
Next we have the Walnut Face Scrub. This is the line's star exfoliating product. It uses ground-up walnut shells to slough away dead skin and pore-clogging materials from the surface of the skin. There's also squalane, which moisturizes the skin, glycerin, which balances moisture, sodium hyaluronate, which hydrates, and ginseng and fruit extracts to provide a touch of chemical exfoliation. It's worth noting that other walnut shell exfoliating products have historically been faced with criticism by top skin experts, since the grainy texture can prove too harsh and abrasive on gentle facial skin. (causing actual micro-tears in the skin). As such, we'd be careful with this one.
After exfoliation comes toner application. Jenner's toner is alcohol-free and formulated with a blend of apple fruit extract, squalane, and avocado and apricot kernel oil to hydrate thirsty skin. She recommends soaking a cotton pad in the toner, before gently swiping it over the skin as second cleansing/hydrating step ahead of moisturizer. (All you fragrance-free fiends be warned; this toner features a floral vanilla fragrance).
Seeing as the purpose of Jenner's skincare line is to unveil glowing, healthy skin, it makes sense that her first serum would be of the vitamin C variety, as vitamin C is an effective brightening ingredient. Along with vitamin C, there's also olive fruit oil, grape seed oil, soybean oil, and camellia oil—all of which moisturize the skin and provide it with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.
Jenner's first moisturizer is made up of soothing aloe, moisturizing shea butter, balancing glycerin, and a combination of banana leaf, orange peel, and oat bran extract, which softens and smoothes the surface of the skin. Use it at night to hydrate your skin before sleep, or massage it into your skin in the morning. According to the brand, it provides the "perfect" base for makeup (we would expect nothing less from Kylie's first moisturizer).
Jenner even created an eye cream for her skincare line (like we said, this line covers all of the skincare basics). It's formulated with caffeine, green tea extract, pomegranate extract, vitamin E, vitamin C, and jojoba seed oil. The purpose of this eye cream, like all other eye creams, is to awaken the under eye area, making it look fresh, bright, and firm. It also aims to prevent signs of aging from making an early appearance (thanks to the wrinkle-preventing and antioxidant-rich ingredients).
Last but not least we have Makeup Removing Wipes (because someone as makeup-obsessed as Jenner knows the power of a good makeup-removing product). The good-for-skin ingredients in these are aloe, cucumber extract, and oat kernel extract. All three of these ingredients are soothing to stressed skin.
