Call it a bold statement, but we think it’s safe to say that Kim Kardashian West looked the best she’s ever looked last night at the MTV Video Music Awards. Her makeup was very natural and subtle, and her fresh, chic “wet” hairdo perhaps took a page from Beyoncé’s look circa the 2014 Grammys.
But while you may assume West’s hair was created with water and hair gel, there was a very unlikely ingredient used to create that glossy, fresh-out-of-the-shower look: snail essence. We can’t say we’re too surprised that the entrepreneur was down to use the ingredient, considering she’s tried vampire facials and fish pedicures, among other outside-the-box treatments.
To create the look, hairstylist Michael Silva channeled beach vibes: “I decided to keep her hair fresh and sexy, perfecting and enhancing her natural texture. A continuation of summery, beach beauty.” Want to try out the look yourself (snail essence and all)? Take a look at the breakdown below.
“First, I started by applying New Kenra Platinum Snail CC Crème ($25) to damp hair from mid-lengths to ends to prep and prime before layering Kenra Platinum Revive Oil ($28) on top to lock in moisture,” Silva explained in a press release.
“Next, I sprayed Kenra Platinum Texturizing Mist ($22) throughout the hair, working it through with my hands to bring out Kim’s natural wave. I then used my Ghd Air Hairdryer ($199) with a diffuser attachment and dried hair thoroughly, making sure not to touch it too much.”
“After the hair was completely dry, I took my Ghd Platinum Styler ($249) section by section, starting from the back, and perfected her wavy texture and also smoothed some areas where needed.”
“I finished the style by spraying a touch of Kenra Platinum Silkening Mist ($21) and touching the ends with a few more drops of Kenra Platinum Revive Oil. Finally, I sprayed Kenra Platinum Finishing Spray ($22) all over to lock the style and shine in place and protect against humidity.”
