Each time Pat McGrath teases a new product, we're left breathless. She dropped quartets of megawatt metallics; gleaming, light-reflecting highlighter (appropriately named Skin Fetish); and glitter lip pigment we never saw coming. The legendary makeup artist always seems to leave us guessing—and then delivers the most awe-inspiring formulas to satiate the beauty palettes of models, celebrities, editors, and fans alike. It's her brilliant understanding of makeup, the market, and social media fire that allows for her products to sell out in mere minutes on launch day.
Now, ahead of the release of her newest kit, Dark Star 006, she's chosen an appropriate muse: Kim Kardashian West. The business woman and reality star is equally driven, with a face so immaculate, it's almost blinding to look at.

McGrath revealed the news on her Instagram, posting a haunting video of Kardashian West running her hands over her brand new cut (shout out to stylist Chris Appleton for that gem). As someone who can't pass up an opportunity to try new makeup, I elected myself to pretend to be Kim K. and try a few Dark Star 006 looks on for size. The first was inspired by McGrath's blue eye for Anna Sui—she used UltraViolet Blue, a seven-piece set meant to add dimension, sparkle, and bold color to the usual smoky eye.

To do it, I had the pros over at Glamsquad come to the office, and what transpired was the coolest eye makeup I've had on my lids to date. Makeup artist Joel Vasquez applied the silky blue pigment to each eye and smoked it out with the inky-black powder that holds just a hint of shimmer. To finish it off, he added a bit of iridescent sparkle to the inner corners of my eyes. It looked incredible (I felt like a muse all night) and stayed on until the wee hours of the morning.
Included in the kit, along with the matte black and blue, is Astral White pigment—a sheer, holographic white—and a matching eye gloss. For a more daytime look, I layered both on each eye and patted my lids to blend out any creases. The products immediately intensified my blue eyes, and I took more selfies than I'd like to admit to show it off.
