I don’t love to wear foundation on a regular basis, but concealers have my heart forever. If I were stranded on a desert island, it’s the one product I’d want to have. I love concealers for their versatility; they can camouflage almost skin concern.
As far as my formula preference, I typically prefer a skin-like aesthetic, but there are moments when I need a product that can deliver full-coverage without looking too thick or unnatural. Kevyn Aucoin's Sensual Skin Enhancer is certainly one of the most well-known products to deliver exactly that. Beloved by makeup artists and casual beauty-lovers alike, I knew this was one product I had to get my hands on ASAP to see if it's worth the years-long hype. Read on for my full review of the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer.

About My Under-Eyes: Darkness and tear troughs
My under-eye darkness has been something I’ve been insecure about since I was a teenager. Even with trying to get more sleep and staying hydrated, I can’t do much to change the purple darkness and creases under my eyes; they're genetic and a natural part of being human.
As an adult, I can definitely admit that late nights and early mornings are often part of my lived experience, and with my sleep issues, that only adds to my dark circles and my insecurities about them. I’ve committed to developing a nighttime routine that will help me sleep through the night, but, until then, I load up on concealers. Right now, I’m wearing the MAC Cosmetics Studio Fix 24-Hour Smooth Wear Concealer. Its medium coverage works for me while I work from home, but when I’m out and about, I prefer more coverage. Familiar with how beloved The Sensual Skin Enhancer from Kevyn Aucoin is, I was really excited to try it out.
How to Apply: Use the tiniest dot
It’s important to mention right away that this product has a thicker texture, is heavily pigmented, and is super creamy. I knew instantly that I couldn’t use the same amount of concealer with this product that I do with others. This formula is nothing to be afraid of, though; that just means you start with a small amount of product and add another layer if you need to. Picking up a quarter of a pea sized amount of product with my concealer brush and placing it on the back of my hand, I used my fingers to apply the product under both of my eyes. I then took my damp Beautyblender and blended the concealer into my skin. The heat from my fingers helped melt the concealer, and my sponge helped smooth the product out. Once I was done blending the product, I immediately took a tiny amount of translucent powder and pressed it directly onto the concealer; I didn’t want to risk having this buttery product crease before I finished the rest of my makeup.
The Results: Bright, radiant eyes
When I first started applying The Sensual Skin Enhancer, I wasn’t confident that this concealer was going to work for me; my self-consciousness about my under-eyes makes me weary about new products sometimes. I was totally wrong. This concealer showed me two things: this product is beyond amazing, and it’s possible to find a full coverage concealer that doesn’t take a lot of manipulating to look natural. Since I love a natural, dewy glow, many full-coverage concealers I like dry down fairly matte or end up creasing, which doesn’t lend itself well to the most natural look. This concealer from Kevyn Aucoin changes that. Its radiant finish, lightweight feel, and smooth texture gives me the natural look I’m after without compromising the coverage I want. My dark circles were completely erased with the tiniest amount of product, and once I set it with a touch of translucent powder, it stayed put all day. What I also love about this product is that it doubles as a concealer and foundation, especially if you’re more of a natural, barely-there makeup wearer. Even though this concealer is a winner in my book, I’d love to see an extended shade range in the future. The Kevyn Aucoin concealer comes in 16 shades; more options would only make me love this product more.
The Value: Expensive, but will last forever
Kevyn Aucoin is a brand that creates luxurious cosmetics with a price tag to match, but what you’re getting is well worth the upfront cost. At first glance, you might think this concealer is unreasonably expensive, but in actuality, it’s not. In my opinion, you get a ton of product for the price. Not only is there 18g of concealer in the packaging for $50, but you need the tiniest amount of product to give you the coverage you want—seriously. Even with everyday use, this concealer will last for many, many months. Since you need such little product to perfect your look, The Sensual Skin Enhancer is the type of product that will pay for itself over time. I say all of that to say this: if you can get comfortable with the initial cost of this concealer, you won’t need to worry about repurchasing another one for a long time.
