As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life). “Reviewed” is a new series where we report on some of the best products we’ve tried. Whether it’s a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you’ll find all of our favorites in this column. Enjoy!
I was sitting in the chair of Etienne Taenaka, Vidal Sassoon’s regional manager and salon director in Beverly Hills, when he taught me a trick that I would later teach others to similar awe. He was giving me the piece-y, unfussy beach waves that I strive for with every blowout, when he took out the shiny purple box of Kérastase Carré Lissant Touch-Up Sheets for Hair, which I coincidentally had been sent a few weeks earlier. Holding each individual wave of hair, he smoothed one of the sheets over it, banishing frizz and locking in smoothness. The truth was that I hadn’t quite known how I was supposed to use the sheets when they’d landed on my desk, and/or if they were any better than plain old dryer sheets. But I learned then that they were the real deal, as I saw the crazy, instant-smoothing effect they had on frizz-prone hair.
A few days later, a co-worker was complaining of static frizz in her hair and asked if I had anything (as beauty editors, we’re the people coworkers come to for any beauty emergency at work—and I love being a resource for my fellow colleagues in that way), and a light bulb went off. I was ecstatic (pun intended, hehe), to demonstrate the Kérastase Carré Lissant Touch-Up Sheets on her hair, which was indeed wildly frizzy. As I took one-inch sections of her hair, and wrapped a sheet around each one, smoothing it from root to end, you could literally see the frizz disappear in the sheet’s wake like a magic trick. It provided such visible reduction in frizz that three coworkers rolled their chair around to watch the frizz-elimination in action. They were all so impressed by how much the product worked that they bought a box for themselves on the spot. I’ve since pulled these sheets out on many a crazy hair day in Los Angeles and been so thrilled with the result each time. They smooth without making your hair greasy or waxy in the slightest, and you’ll impress a lot of people if you can whip one of these out in a frizz emergency. If you’ve been wondering whether they’re worth it over dryer sheets, the answer is a resounding yes.
