From last year’s Victoria’s Secret show to her brand-new Vogue cover to, well, pretty much every aspect of her white-hot career, it’s pretty easy to assume that Kendall Jenner has the world wrapped around her finger. And yet, one of the things we love most about the supermodel is that in spite of all her astronomical success, she somehow remains relatively relatable. Case in point: Last fall, she revealed that even she has had a certain beauty insecurity follow her into adulthood—her acne-prone skin. “It completely ruined my self-esteem,” she admitted. Though her complexion has largely cleared up as she has gotten older, she says, her skin still flares up from time to time.
Jenner credits the passing of puberty and regular visits to the dermatologist with her skin’s improvement, but this week, she took to her app to reveal the recipe for a DIY zit cream she swears by. Best of all, the concoction requires just a few thrifty pantry staples that are probably already lying around your kitchen. Keep reading to see what they are.
It’s pretty simple: Jenner blends a teaspoon of honey with 1/2 teaspoon each of lemon juice and baking soda and applies the mixture to any offending spots.
But is it expert-approved? The savvy editors at Allure decided to run the recipe by NYC-based dermatologist Joshua Zeichner to get his take. The verdict: For most run-of-the-mill acne, it’s just the ticket. “Baking soda absorbs oil, acids in the lemon juice will exfoliate dead cells from the skin’s surface, and honey will both calm and soothe inflamed skin and may help kill acne-causing bacteria on the skin,” he says. If really angry, cystic blemishes are your issue, you might be better off skipping the DIY approach in favor of a stronger OTC or prescription treatment. But for a regular spot in a pinch?
